Some pretties flowering in Yondah’s coastal garden right now… Halgania andromedifolia (blue), Eremophila mackinlayi (mauve), Correa pulchella (red bells), Templetonia retusa (red flower at bottom of pic) and Eremophila maculata (red with yellow stamens).

We had a real treat this morning in some ‘dark night sky’ areas of SA, as pictured here on southern Yorke Peninsula. This phenomenon, which may be visible again tonight, is the result of at least four powerful solar flares (mass explosions of plasma and magnetic fields from the sun's corona) that occurred earlier this week.

Look who we found in the wood shed! This tiny Western Pygmy Possum was asleep in one of our wood bags (hence the wood dust) so he’ll be moved to a comfy nest box to complete his snooze. These tiny marsupials are no bigger than a mouse, and are now only found in a few locations in SA… and one them is Yondah!!

I nearly had a heart attack! As I lifted a towel out of the linen bag to go into the washing machine, I found this little western pygmy possum curled up asleep inside. I have no idea how or when it got in there. As it was still fast asleep (this species is nocturnal and it can also conserve energy by entering a state of ‘torpor’), I put it into one of our possum nest boxes where it continued to snooze for the rest of the afternoon. When I checked again at sunset, it was waking up and looking quite lively. This morning it had gone. Hopefully it enjoyed a good feed overnight from one of the many hundreds of food plants we’ve put in at Yondah as part of our ‘Blossoms for Possums’ project. As you can see from the pics, western pygmy possums are only thumb-size!

See ya 2023!! And what a big year it’s been. Our biggest project at Yondah this year was a major upgrade which has resulted in 3 spacious queen bedrooms of equal status, each with its own sparkling ensuite, private deck and gorgeous views. This makes Yondah the perfect beach destination for 3 couples, family groups of up to 8, and girls’ getaways. And that’s not all. Lots of other nice surprises await our guests in 2024 - more shortly!!

Well this is working really well, even better than we expected! We took the plunge back in June and installed Tesla storage batteries at both Yondah and at Seafire Beach House to reduce our dependence on carbon fuels via the electricity grid, and to provide our guests with continuous power during grid outages. It’s nice to see that when our guests are away for the day, that Yondah is totally self-sufficient and is now even exporting back into the grid!

This is great news! Both Yondah and Seafire Beach House are located inside the project area, and as a result of our major revegetation project with Trees For Life (SA), we are now seeing endangered Malleefowl and Heath Goannas on our 300 acre site. This year we’ve also seen Hooded Plovers nesting on our beaches, Ospreys passing overhead daily, and sightings of Buff-banded Rails in the vegetation close to both houses. All these things make our hearts sing!! ❤️❤️❤️

We are so thrilled that the ICU we donated is saving lives… like this little Grey Shrike Thrush who flew into a window. Fingers crossed for a full recovery, and much love to Minton Farm Animal Rescue Centre for being total legends ❤️❤️❤️
