Keep wongari WILD on K'gari - Fraser Island.

"September to November is when pups are learning to hunt. If food from humans is available, pups may not learn natural hunting skills. Adult dingoes may regard humans as competitors for that food and become aggressive." Queensland National Parks

Wongari hunt and scavenge for their own food very successfully - there is no need for human food.

🌬️Winter is officially here. This means that from June to August on K’gari (Fraser Island) it’s feeding time for the islands newborn wongari (dingo) pups. Alpha mothers become very aggressive during this time to protect and find food for their pups ❗.

Wongari only have pups once per year and it is the dominant alpha pair in each pack that is responsible for successfully breeding and raising the pups. Their dens are very carefully guarded and well-hidden to help protect them from other wongari packs and ensure their survival.

👉It’s important to remember that the wongari are wild, apex predators and the best thing you can do to protect yourself, other visitors and the wongari is to give them space.

The morning after - the driver has been located. He stayed in the valley last night.

They tried to retrieve the ute at the low tide (about 2am) but not successful - getting a tow truck.

Be aware of these roadworks happening as currently you can’t get around the rocks using the beach. There could be a little bit of a hold up, but it will be worth it to get this bit of the bypass fixed.

School Holidays start today!

It is also Dingo (Wongari) whelping season so there will be lots of youngsters out and about on K'gari.
Dingo whelping season means:

• dingo pups will venture out of their dens and explore their surroundings
• adult dingoes will be teaching their young natural hunting and survival skills
• dingoes may be determined and aggressive in their search for food
• females will aggressively defend their young
• female dingoes that are feeding young can lose condition and become naturally lean during this time.
