Our story begins with an adventurous young boy who spent much of his childhood exploring a magical island which he called K’gari. Growing up, Mark spent his school holidays exploring an enchanted sand island just a short boat trip from where he lived in Maryborough. He spent his days chasing sand crabs, catching worms, fishing off the beach and of course, like any kid does when they spend time on

the beach, he built lots of sandcastles. A quiet but adventurous kid, Mark spent his days marvelling at the many natural wonders that are found on the island and asking his parents all about them. He was fascinated by the natural history of the island but so troubled by the history of it’s peoples. Little Mark eventually grew up, and by grew up we mean into a big kid with responsibilities. Eventually after teaching for a while he started his own adventure company and named it Drop Bear Adventures, now called K'gari Fraser Island Adventures, a company that we are proud to say does things a little differently to the rest. With Hana by his side, the biggest green hearted eco warrior you will ever meet, this nature loving duo head up K’gari’s most progressive tour company. Sustainable and culturally sensitive, this tour company is the sort of tour company you rave about. We would like to acknowledge that our adventures are held on the traditional lands of the Butchulla people. We pay our respects to Elders past, present and emerging.

Introducing the KEEP K'gari pristine PROJECT...

Caring for our planet has always been at the heart of what we do. Since founding our company, we’ve stood proudly alongside the Butchulla people to protect and care for K’gari Country.

Since 2018, we’ve hosted 11 official Beach Clean-Ups, welcoming over 500 volunteers who roll up their sleeves and have collected over 52000kg of rubbish of K'gai so far.

In fact, our very first trip back after the Rona was a K’gari Fraser Island clean-up—it’s that important to us!

Through all our tours and stays on K’gari, we’ve made it our mission to educate our guests and invite them to join us in preserving this magical place. It’s been incredibly inspiring to see just how many people care deeply enough to go the extra mile even when they’re on their holidays, people are awesome!

The Keep K’gari Pristine Project is about diving deeper, rolling up our sleeves higher, and tackling the marine debris problem head-on. K’gari needs our help, and while the plastic problem isn’t going away anytime soon, we have a plan to make a real impact here on K’gari Fraser Island.

Our main event for next year is.. THE WALK
🚶‍♂️ A 13-Day Walk from Sandy Cape to Hook Point

The plan is to walk the entire length of the eastern beach collecting rubbish as we go.

It’s that simple. It is 125kms from Sandy Cape to Hook Point. Hana, one of our founders will walk the entire length of the beach and you can sign up to join her for any leg of the event provided you are fit and motivated to push yourself every step of the way. Each walking group will be no more than 8 people and all accommodation, transport and catering will be provided by our major sponsors!

Our Story

We love the freedom of 4WDriving on Fraser Island's beautiful beaches and couldn’t imagine doing anything as magical than sharing amazing experiences with beautiful people from all over the world.

Our tours take us off the beaten track and share another side to the island that not many people ever get to see. Immersing ourselves in a natural wonderland, exploring beautiful freshwater lakes, remarkable rainforests and endless sandy beaches. We spend our days journeying through time as we share the ancient history and dreamtime stories of this islands’ protectors, the Butchulla people.

Proudly the most culturally and environmentally respectful Fraser Island tour company on K’gari, we take our passion for our natural world to the next level. Our story begins with a young boy growing up on a magical island that he just never wanted to leave. On the outside, this little boy crew up to be a bearded man that we now call Poppa Bear, but on the inside he’s still just a big kid who likes a sunset beer.

Mark started Drop Bear Adventures so he could spend more time in a place that he loves and lucky for us he’s a top fella to work for. Together, with his eco-warrior wife, Hana this pair of love birds pump a whole lot of passion and energy into making Drop Bear Adventures the best tour company that it can be.
