Julie's group survived the night with Typhoon Yagi and eventually made it to the airport with lots of detours. The devastation on the way was pretty sobering. The spirit of the Vietnamese community is amazing. They were out first thing this morning clearing the debris.

Current situation in Hanoi. Julie's group are confined to our new hotel (which we don't mind at all!!) The Typhoon is currently heading toward us. Here are two videos of what is happening right now. Note the massage shop across from the hotel, still trying to entice people in 🤣🤣

Julie's group had an abrupt end to their Halong Bay 3 day/2 night cruise. After an amazing dinner last night and spending today visiting Cat Ba Island and cruising through spectacular scenery, Typhoon Yagi raised its ugly head and all cruises in Halong Bay were cancelled immediately and everyone evacuated to Hanoi. It was all handled brilliantly by the staff. Luckily I know an amazing Travel Agent and everything was rearranged perfectly 👌 😉😉

Julie and her group arrived in Hanoi and had a chill afternoon hanging by the pool to prepare for the day ahead. After a great night's sleep they did a Back Streets Of Hanoi Jeep tour. Our guides were Jacky Chan and Fred. They took us to Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum, French Quarter, Old Quarter, lakes of Hoan Kiem and West Lake, Hanoi Opera house, the Long Bien Bridge, met a local 'Uncle' who played many musical instruments and told us his story and the famous train street. We ended the tour with a beautiful lunch at Hidden Gem Cafe which makes use of all recycled materials (except for the food..) A must do activity when visiting Hanoi. Heading to Halong Bay for our two night cruise on a junk boat.
