TIM'S ANNUAL CHRISTMAS LETTER 🎄

As 2024 comes to a close, it gives me great pride to say that we’re about to officially conclude our 60th year of operations.

One of the reasons I enjoy writing this letter is it gives me a chance to take a step away from all the craziness of running what is a very complicated and hands - on business with a lot of moving parts (both literal and metaphorical!) and reflect on all of the highs and lows of the year.

We have just surpassed our booking numbers for 2023 across chauffeur drive, charter bus, and self-storage with the ongoing strong demand for our range of services being hugely encouraging and something I must thank the people of Geelong for!
I would also like to personally thank our office administrator, Taylor today. It’s a little scary to think that we were both in our early 20s when we started working together and while she’s fortunately still got a few more months of her 20s left to go I have just hit the big 30!

She has always been a real quiet achiever and ably handles what can be a very stressful and demanding role while always showing grace and patience to myself, our drivers, and our customers and for that she deserves a lot of praise and appreciation.

Rick also continues to do an exceptional job as our maintenance supervisor and is a constant source of wise advice to me on all things mechanical along with bringing an infectiously positive attitude towards everything he does with us.

Our transport service would not be possible without the efforts of our drivers who assist with everything from airport transfers to weddings and winery tours and will still be providing a great level of service around the clock throughout the festive season.

On a more personal note, we did also have some sad times this year, with the most significant of those being the loss of my grandfather John who passed away at the ripe old age of 88 after a long and determined struggle to hold back father time finally came to an end.

John played a very significant yet “behind the scenes” role in our company in the early years of my father’s management which is something that he never sought any credit for.

I would say that I appreciate more than most people just how much of a difference a supportive pat on the back from an older person can make when you feel like you’re trying your best but the chips are still down. John was somebody who I always felt like genuinely believed in me even if that faith was often a little blind, biased and not always based on any particular positive evidence! So, I’ll always be grateful to him for that.

In something of a full circle moment one door closed just as another was opening and my wife Caitlin and I were thrilled to learn earlier in the year that we were to become an uncle and aunty for the first time. Just last week (the 10th of December) we welcomed little Myles into the world.

I can’t quite find the words to describe how special it was for us to meet Myles, and although he’s probably still a little young to become an avid subscriber to the Murrell HQ social media platforms and email newsletter (give him a couple more months 😂) I would still like to give him a shout out from uncle Tim and aunty Caitlin who already love him very much.

I hope that you all have a fantastic festive season with your loved ones and will say one more huge thank you to everyone who supported us in 2024.

We’ll still be here to help right through the holiday period and will put up a post with our adjusted Christmas office hours in the next couple of days!

We’re so thrilled to be welcoming “The Silver Muse” into Geelong on the 21st of January 2025!

This beautiful cruise ship has a maximum capacity of 691 and will be sailing all the way from the USA 🇺🇸

We’re also proud to say that we’ve all ready received bookings from three seperate groups of US tourists (from Ohio, South Carolina and Arizona!) and have been telling them all about what our town has to offer.

We’re ready to show some Aussie hospitality ✌️.

Geelong has a serious case of co**se plant fever!!

Those of our followers who don’t live locally may not be aware that we’ve just experienced a once in 10 year event with the bloom of our co**se plant residing in the botanical gardens.

The big moment finally happened yesterday and lines to see our foul smelling tourist attraction reached up to 3 hours long last night 👀.

We wonder what will have changed in our city the next time the flower blooms in 2034? 🤔

Our Saturday cultural tour!

We were very lucky to host a group of indigenous students from Western Australia who took a tour of historically significant sites in our region.

We’d like to thank the Wathaurong Aboriginal Co-Operative that advised us in putting this day together 🚌.

The Gibson Steps were first carved into the cliffs by local settler Hugh Gibson who used them regularly to access the beautiful beach area offering views across to the Twelve Apostles!

Hugh also had a connection with the infamous Loch Ard ship wreck that we posted about earlier this week! The two survivors (Tom Pearce and Eva Carmichael) recovered at his home stead after being discovered.

THE SHIPWRECK COAST 🌊

From the twelve apostles onward lies a bit of a lesser known gem…. One of the most perilous coastlines in Australia!

Loch Ard Gorge is famously where the only two teenage survivors of the Loch Ard (which crashed into Mutton Bird Island) dragged themselves to safety and were rescued in 1878
