I love when I’m first up in the morning, and the light is filtering through the trees. This morning it was filtering through trees and fog with a blue sky peeking through and a promise of another beautiful autumn day.

Let me tell you about Autumn on the Granite Belt. The mornings are cold, think low single digit temperatures 🥶. Imagine a big feather doona, toasty slippers, the fireplace crackling, a hot coffee while taking in the calm of the morning looking out across the green paddocks, mist rising from the dams, clear blue skies that give promise of a warmer day. Head out a little later in the day to try a few new neighbours perhaps. Maybe start with Serrena Que winery, taste their beautiful wines (I can recommend the Cortese 😉) and enjoy their lovely cellar door. Meander off to the new gin distillery, The Ginyard. Sample some crisp clear gins while overlooking the vineyard. It’s surely now time to make your way to the newly refurbished Ballandean Pub for some classic pub food, perhaps a cold cleansing ale and good old fashioned country hospitality. After lunch visit some old friends, Golden Grove, View Wines, Bents Rd in Ballandean or closer to the farm Mountview, Jester Hill and The Art of Krupinsky. Relaxing around the fire pit and star gazing while sipping some of your spoils from the day is the perfect way to unwind, reflect and end your perfect autumns day. Today we started picking olives 🫒 from some of the remaining trees left over from the famous that used to be on our farm. Most of the trees had already been taking out before we bought the farm, we still have a few fruiting ones left though. We also have some leftover Persimmon trees from a bygone era, I went to pick them, but sadly only one persimmon was left. Oh well, next year maybe 🤷‍♀️

The last bathroom is almost done. A bit of tiling left, a few tap ware issues to be resolved and we’ll be a two bathroom family once again. It just can’t come quick enough 😂 🛀

As this drizzly, windy, and some what cool weekend draws to a close, a beautiful full rainbow 🌈 arched its way across the farm. A glass of beautiful red wine in had to admire it with a Mt Stirling farm lamb roast in the oven. YUM

A moody and cool day here on the Granite Belt and Mt Stirling Farm. Days like this are great for a stroll around the farm, maybe a roast with some Mt Stirling lamb and curling up with a good book.

Who remembers the original bathroom in the main house ? Last renovated around 1980/1990’s, it would have been a showstopper back in the day. Now the tiny corner shower stall has gone, the rotting boards removed, the toilet that could be seen from the lounge and breakfast table is no longer. Stay tuned to see the last renovation (maybe 🤷‍♀️😂) within the farmhouse here on Mt Stirling Farm.

Just in time for the busy winter season, the Nurses Quarters now has a gate at the top of the stairs. This allows children, human and fur varieties, to be able to laze on the beautiful 2 sided veranda without means of escape (well the human variety might be able to work the latch). Painting the garden beds to tie them into the house design and make the beautiful waterfall edged blackbutt decking stand out. Next step is to get some plants established before winter sets in.

We are often asked if we get kangaroos 🦘 near the house, the answer is clearly YES! It doesn’t happen all the time, on some occasions we are lucky enough to see animals like this pretty face Wallaby and her Joey outside the kitchen window.

Under the shade of an olive tree there now sits a sandpit. Currently two little girls are loving their new garden playground 🪣 🏝️ while their little brother who loves digging more than anything is fast asleep. I know when he wakes he’s going to be the happiest little boy in Glen Aplin. Thanks to Mason for donating his trucks

Bathroom renovation number 1 is starting to take shape. After doing bathroom renovations in the cottages to ensure our guests have beautiful bathrooms, it will be a luxury to have a beautiful bathroom of our own. This room will be a bathroom and laundry combo.

Our carefully crafted cuts taste so different to supermarket meat due to the care in fattening our lambs on our farm. A variety of cuts are available and if you are local why not drop by to shop straight from the deep freeze otherwise we will be visiting Brisbane with a full load in the New Year. Renovations and n our house, Lavender Cottage, are in full swing. Just in case anyone thought we relaxing 🤦🏽‍♀️ Bathroom/laundry has been waterproofed.

I love finding vintage or just old or interesting pieces and recycling or repurposing them. I love that I’ve saved something from landfill. This gorgeous light fitting was kindly given to me by .s.thompson, it just needed the silver fittings painted to ensure it goes with the other black light fittings in the house. An old heavy cement planter that I found at the dump with a little spray paint, still looks old but with a fresh update. And these old bamboo lanterns going from washed out light grey to black. They need a few more coats before they are done, watch this space for the finished product.

This week in Lavender Cottage (our home) it’s all about the renos continuing. Pretty boring pics, the first is of our former view…. Just waiting for the new sliding glass doors and louvre windows to bring back the views across the farm, the light and breeze. Second is our laundry, cleared of it’s old shelves and ready to fulfil its potential as a bathroom/laundry. We had hoped to take a minute between renovations. Finish the front deck and windows and then breathe for a little while. However the tiles in our only bathroom decided to fall off the wall, so bathroom/laundry reno was pushed forward. The silver lining, one step closer to a beautiful bathroom. So while these may be boring pics to post, soon these will be a reference to what we hope will be some beautiful changes to our home here

Last night we hosted a group of sixteen keen golfers with a linen covered table under fairy lights and stars. With three beautiful cottages under the Mt Stirling Farm and Cottages banner, we can house different group sizes. Perhaps your group could have a bespoke gathering of cocktails or high tea in the Olive Grove, dinner in the garden or a picnic style lunch under the shade of Mt Stirling. Maybe we will see you soon in our beautiful corner of www.mtstirlingfarm.com.au
