I've been meaning to write this review for ages. We took my parents-in-law on a boat trip around the Gold Coast canals, back in May 2022. We had such a lovely time on board. The GC skyline and the lights around the city as we cruised around during sunset were simply beautiful and we were able to enjoy them from an angle and view that few ever get to experience.

Our boat captain was incredibly professional, friendly, and helpful. He took us to so many little nooks and crannies along the canals and we felt absolutely safe in his hands. He also regaled us with tales of various places around the canals, as well as stories from his own life. We were able to bring a dinner for us on board, which we dined on comfortably whilst being chauffeured up and down the canals in style.

I would absolutely recommend Duffy Down Under to anyone who is interested in a similar experience, and cannot commend their service and professionalism highly enough. Thank you again for treating our folks to such a memorable experience.

Who said it’s winter? Not the Duffy fleet as they all put to sea this morning on beautiful water looking like glass. Winter is the best time of the year for a cruise, it’s quiet, temperature perfect & the Broadwater to yourself. The State Labor Government’s Planning Minister is considering overriding the Council’s rejection of a proposal to rip up Arundel Hills for luxury housing.

If the Minister goes ahead with this, she will have the power to make any decision she wants about the development - overriding not just the Council but also the Courts.

The clear and overwhelming view of our community through the Council process was that we didn’t want this kind of development here.

We need to make sure the Minister hears that message loud and clear by getting as many people as possible to put in objections.

The Arundel Hills Community Association have put together a really simple way for you to send a high-impact objection to the Minister.

📝 Click the link above to go to the Action Network site then follow the instructions and it will lodge a standard objection in just a few seconds.

🗓️ Submissions need to be in by 5pm on Wednesday 8 May.

⌨️ If you want to personalise what you say to the Minister, you can edit the standard response with your reasons for objecting before it is submitted.

✅ Council put in an excellent letter to the Minister summarising all the reasons they rejected the proposal. I’ll post it in the comments if you want some inspiration for your submission.

🏢 Most people I’ve spoken to are not against development - just down the road at Parkwood, 200 apartments are being built on the edge of our area’s other golf course. That’s been broadly supported.

🌳 The difference with the Arundel proposal is it’s a widespread housing development which would completely take away our area’s green space.

❌ This development won’t do anything to solve the housing crisis, it will destroy an important part of our local environment and it will remove a large area of land with big potential for sport and recreation.

You may have seen that Queensland Housing Minister, Meaghan Scanlon, is thinking about calling-in the development application proposed for the site of the former Arundel Hills Country Club. If she proceeds with the call-in then she will have the power to make any decision she wants, including approving the development and completely overriding the wishes of the local community which were reflected in the way the City of Gold Coast Council unanimously rejected the application.

Right now, Ms Scanlon is taking feedback on whether or not the call-in is a good idea.

The committee of the Arundel Hills Community Association has organised an easy way to object to the call-in. We have taken advice from our lawyers about exactly what to say in objection and advice from groups, who have previously conducted successful campaigns, on how to get the greatest number of objections on the Minister's desk.

As ever, our success in this will depend on the actions of our members, supporters and the wider community. In this case, anyone in the whole of Queensland can register their opinion, so we really do need you to share this as widely as possible. Because this is a posting in Facebook Group, people outside the group will not be able to access it. But you can copy the text of this posting and paste it into a new posting of your own so all your friends can see it and act on it.

Action needs to be taken by 8th May.

By following the advice we were given we have been able to put together a really simple way for you to send a high-impact objection to the Minister. All you need to do is follow the link below, or scan the QR code on this posting. Either of those will take you to a page on the Action Network site. Follow the instructions on that page and you can send a standard objection in just a few seconds. Can you help save our greenspace by SAYING NO to the development application of Arundel Hills Golf Course! Do you want 400+ new homes adding at least 800 more cars per day on already congested Arundel Drive and Napper Rd, causing more air and noise polution? This irreplaceable green space (zoned sport and recreation!) is a very important habitat for koala and many other species. This development would obliterate their habitat forever, as several thousand koala habitat trees would be removed, and important waterways filled in. The koala was listed as endangered in QLD in 2022 and their habitat is being destroyed in SE QLD at an alarming rate. Speak up for the wildlife who can't speak for themselves, and save this precious green space! Online objection submissions to GCCC close in 7 days on Tues Oct 17th! Please submit your online objection asap! (Development Application MCU/2023/84). It is absolutely wonderful to welcome back GZL International & Dixon Travel with our 1st Chinese Group to visit the Gold Coast and Duffy Down Under after a very long 4 years.

It was fantastic to see the familiar face of one of the tour guides we had worked with for many years previously.

Much fun was had by all, sipping on Coffee, Tea & enjoy good old fashioned Australian Lamingtons as we cruised silently through the Gold Coast canals.

It was certainly a great morning enjoyed by all.⚓️😃
