Hosting an international artist is a huge privilege. We welcomed David Dibble to Melbourne this week for an exclusive Artable Masterclass in oil painting.

We were getting texts from students on day one thanking us - the feedback on the profound impact he had on every student was extraordinary.

This was a masterclass to empower landscape painters to get to that next level.

A quick update from the Artable retreat venue Enclave in beautiful Tasmania!

We have jusy come back from holidays and the hotel gets a deep clean and tidy up. The storage room got a spruce up with harvested sage, oregano, chamomile hanging to dry.

The gardens are getting topped up with the next run of produce whilst we make use of he great sunshine. We still get cooler nights but beautiful crisp clear days in summer.

My auction addition continues as I add some old untouched silverware to the dining experience and loads of jars for flowers!

An extraordinary workshop in Melbourne with Australian contemporary landscape artist Tim Allen! It’s an incredibly powerful experience to create your own unique interpretations of the landscape.

Tim only teaches a couple of times a year as he has a full workload as an artist. We can’t wait to see what Tim’s group creates over a week in the Tasmanian landscape next year! It’s sold out, so if you missed this one keep an eye out for 2026 or our other upcoming workshops with Australian artists.

I spent a couple of days experimenting with a new paper - Conson Mi Tientes Velvet - and loved the results. It holds the pastel very well and there is very little drift. It also takes multiple layers.

I'm rather enamoured with this new product and see all sorts of possibilities!

MELBOURNE WORKSHOP CONFIRMED! Youve been asking and were listening as always. I have just confirmed 2 new face to face events for next year with Artable Studio. For Novembers wonderful 3 day workshop, were exploring a fantastic subject of the OWL in watercolour. What a gorgeous subject this is too, so full of intensity, contrasting softness and remarkable texture. A challenge? Yes it is, but its a wonderful one, and I am going to walk you through the process every step of the way, to show you how it can be done. Whether youre a seasoned artist wanting to refine your work or a keen beginner, theres plenty to learn and enjoy in this focus. I look forward to seeing you there!

Canberra has stepped up to the plate to finally give us a plein air event on the east coast! A couple of familiar faces are behind this April event. We are thrilled to support this one and I’ll be there in person as well.

Make sure you jump on their list to get updates and let’s all get behind this important event. Our Australian artists need these events to be able to compete on the international stage and our community need need to be able to fatter as often as possible!

Our Story

If you are the kind of person that has always wanted to have a go at art, but feel a bit nervous about starting, then you have found the right page.

Artable believes that EVERYONE can learn how to paint and draw with the right teaching and the right tools and we have hundreds of people over many years who are now proof that this is actually true :)

Our focus is on providing weekend workshops and art retreats around Australia and overseas that show you the ‘how to’ in a relaxing environment.

In 2017 we launched the largest gathering of artists our region had ever seen gathering 100 students and 8 teachers together for our annual art retreat. It was a highlight for us - affordable and accessible.
