Another epic week on retreat with @colleywhissonartist in Tasmania @enclave.tasmania . Colley tells us this is some of the best landscape subject matter in Australia and we agree!
We chased down farm culture this week with access to some local farms to get the best inspiration. We are so grateful to our amazing local community in Winnaleah for supporting our artists.
This group worked heavily in studio under Colley’s guidance with field trips for grabbing photo references and a couple of plein air days. They were prolific - each artist producing 5-8 paintings in their time here.
If you are serious about getting better at oil painting then @colleywhissonartist is a must. We watched each and every student fly and one student sold her artwork to a local at the end of the week 😍
Tasmania ticks all the boxes, perfect cool but not cold weather, no flies, epic landscapes and the support of a little country town and community. It’s on again same time next year - join us!

The final artwork from @diefenbachlyn who showed us this week how she uses water soluble crayons in her travel journal. Lyn loves to add a little poetry to match her artwork and keep her memories which is yet to come!

The travel journals on retreat with @diefenbachlyn are fast becoming popular with students! When we do our day trips to beautiful places on retreat, students can choose to sit and do their travel journals or tackle more complex plein air pastel paintings.
You can take just a few minutes to capture something on location to finish later or you can spend hours waiting at an airport colouring in.
Lyn finished her plein air pastel work and sat down to do a quick sketch at Tasmania’s Bay of Fires and throw some colour on which could then be finished in the comfort of the studio or lounge in the quiet moments on holiday.
This is a fun and easy way you can take your art on tour with you and you end up with beautiful journals filled with your experiences to hand down to your grandkids!
