After just 4 days on the hardstand the incredible team at Oceania Marine Port Whangarei, have transformed Sea Breeze III below the waterline from tired and barnacle encrusted, to shine and new again.

On our maiden passage on Sea Breeze III, we had to exit Viaduct Harbour in Auckland and travel 80nm up the coast to Port Whangarei. We anchored overnight opposite Marsden Wharf, before covering the final 9nm the next morning for an 8am lift out. As it was my first time helming Sea Breeze III, it felt like taking off in an A380 and hoping you can figure out how to land it. The right angled turn into the travel lift between the long imposing concrete walls went perfectly. 👏

With the Port Whangarei team and a diver spending 2 hours, to get the 10 slings spread evenly under the bulkheads, without damaging the underwater appendages, it was managed brilliantly. Whats more - they worked on a Sunday, so they could fit us into an already full schedule. If all goes well we’ll be back on the water on the 10th or 11th of December and back down to Auckland.

Sea Breeze - Hull repaint tour ⛵️

We were excited to host the ANZ team () from Sydney and their 50+ guests onboard Sea Breeze III for our first charter since acquiring the vessel 9 weeks ago. ⁠
⁠
Led by Skipper Graeme, Chief Mate Adrian, Deckhand Amy and the catering team from The Collective - our crew did an excellent job hosting our guests as we cruised from the Viaduct Harbour to Motuhie Island for an anchorage stop.⁠

Sea Breeze III and Te Kaihōpara crossed paths today for the first time. 👏

Te Kaihõpara was heading from Kawau Island to Great Barrier Island, on a 4-day cruising weekend, while Sea Breeze III was on an 90nm passage from the Viaduct to Oceania Marine at Port Whangarei for some out of water, TLC.

It was David’s first time at the helm of Sea Breeze III and while departing the Viaduct was a challenge, entering the travel lift in Whangarei will be a big test. ⛵️

There is no happier place than behind the wheel of a yacht!

Nathan has been a tremendous help in getting Awen ready for her journey. A boat owner himself, he finds Awen to be quite special:

NZT 1700 30/11/24 position report for Awen. S32° 57.951, E 170° 10.620, SOG 9.7 knots, COG 231°, TWS 10.5, TWD 115°.
A beautiful day sailing, double headed with the Code 0 and staysail, with full main a rolling small swell that’s sometimes surfing us along at 10 plus knots. The speed competition has started with the crew! Dolphins, Orca's, sun and light winds in flat water, an amazing sunset and great company! Rob, Stef, David and Nathan have been doing an amazing job, we are all learning Awen and the learning curve is very steep!

Thanks for your messages asking for updates on Sharon and the crew of Awen. At 8pm tonight NZT they were at: S33° 38.784, E 171° 28.418 and travelling at 7.2 knots on a course of 260 degrees true. We don't have starlink onboard yet, but hope to have their live tracker integrated in the website in the next couple of days using Iridium Go. In the meantime I will post location updates daily. David
