Awen turned into a bucking bronco last night as she navigated through the very confused, steep and challenging sea state. ⁠

Not only did we have that but a very impressive lightning storm developed right on top of us. We turned off the electronics thinking that might save them, David did a great job calling the compass so I had something to go by, while Amit and Jane was on lighting direction watch to make sure we were going the right way.⁠

Mark and Craig were smartly hiding from the rain and Iain was on the radar. We were down to 3 reefs to stop her from launching off the waves. ⁠
⁠
The sea state has calmed with sunrise and a wind shift so hopefully we can all get some sleep! We are 106nm away from the seaway. The next challenge but a sleep now after a very busy night!⁠
⁠
We have 106nm to go and ETA into Southport is just before 11pm on 12 Feb.⁠

UPDATE: Sharon has opted to remain outside the seaway overnight and enter on the incoming tide after 0730 tomorrow morning

Sea Breeze III update - day 3

What a fantastic day of cruising on Sea Breeze III! ⛵️

The team unanimously decided to return to the south side of Motuihe Island on Sunday night, enjoying the bay all to ourselves. Everyone is eager to spend some time ashore this evening.

After walking over 10 km on Rangitoto today, we have some very tired guests! Tomorrow’s plan includes a morning stroll to the highest point of Motuihe Island, followed by a leisurely cruise back to Auckland on Monday.

We anchored up in Shark Bay, Bon Accord Harbour on our first night. We. had a relaxing day, including a stop at Moturekareka Island for a snorkel around the Rewa shipwreck, before moving to our overnight anchorage. ⁠
⁠
Guests went ashore to the cruising club for happy hour and then we shared a lovely dinner onboard Sea Breeze III.⁠
⁠
On Saturday we had a wander around Kawau Island, checked out the copper mine tunnels and visited the Mansion House Museum.
