Wadi Rum , known also as the Valley of the Moon is a valley cut into the sandstone and granite rock in southern Jordan approx 60 km (35-40miles) to the east of Aqaba it is the largest wadi in Jordan.
Wadi Rum is a Protected Area & was named a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2011.
Desert scenes of Wadi Rum in the movie “Lawrence Of Arabia” (1962) kick-started Jordan's tourism industry.
Wadi Rum has been inhabited by many human cultures since prehistoric times, with many cultures–including the Nabataeans–
My first visit was in 1978 on an overland group journey from Kathmandu to London on board a double decker bus. I remembered the journey, however , the magnificence of Wadi Rum only struck me when I escorted a group in 2018. In 2019 Jordan beckoned me again this time on a solo journey with thoughts of experiencing a night in Wadi Rum under the stars ✨
Many years had passed since my first visit, (so have my comfort requirements)...on this occasion 2019, my local Jordan tour operators booked me into the magnificent Wadi Rum Space Village ( with air-con)
Lawrence’s Springs are located approx 30min walk from my camp. I chose to travel by jeep so I could take in more of the beauty including the spectacular sunset.

Let’s just go have coffee ..💫
It’s amazing what one finds when not looking. Out & about with another travel agent friend we usually look for a different cafe or restaurant.
We had already consumed our lunch when this #new restaurant appeared on our walk at @marinamirage .
We were stunned by the welcoming staff at @ladybirdatpalazzoversace ...
Our arm was not twisted to add a delicious Creme Brûlée to our coffee order
Let’s just go have a coffee ...

Tel Aviv , ISRAEL
Let me take you on a quick journey to Tel Aviv, Israel It’s a cosmopolitan city like no other
Remember one needs more than a day to explore Tel Aviv . Discover new places, new corners , new places, AND the food 👀😊😆
Rose-Red City Petra JORDAN
One needs more than a day to explore the Rose-Red City of Petra in Jordan. ... more like 4+ days to explore this 264,000 square metre archaeological land ... be aware the heat can cause exhaustion 🥵 possibly even you may collapse ( best to stay away during summer. ) ( I have travelled there several times, the heat can ‘knock the socks off you’.. best time to visit in my opinion is from November - March .. however, one may encounter heavy rains & or snow ... I prefer September )
It’s one tourist attraction you should not miss 👀
Not only is Petra a magnificent historical site it’s also a great attraction for movie 🎥 producers
History tells of the rise and fall of an empire, conquest, a natural disaster and an explorer in disguise who embarks on a mission to find it....
Known as the Rose-Red City for the magnificent structures carved from the pink- and red-coloured mountains, and the Lost City for the centuries of its abandonment, PETRA is now a UNESCO World Heritage site, one of the New 7 Wonders of the World and Jordan’s most prized tourist attraction.
From the 1st century BC, it was the capital of the Nabatean Empire settled by up to 20,000 nomadic Arabs, and a flourishing hub for the trade of silk, spices and incense until it was conquered by the Romans, then destroyed by a massive earthquake. By the 12th century, Petra was occupied by the Crusaders, then abandoned by all except the local Bedouins. It was a 27yr old Swiss explorer, Johann Ludwig Burckhardt, who disguised himself as a Bedouin to sneak into the enigmatic location approx in 1821 and bring it to international prominence.
Now a World Heritage Site in the kingdom of Jordan , ‘the rose-red city half as old as time’ ( fourth century BC the capital of the Nabataean people, who controlled the trade routes from oasis to oasis in Arabia and later allied themselves with the Romans. )
