“There’s work that cannot be done from home, construction is pretty obviously one of them. I think we’re emphasising all of the same things for every work place, in terms of trying to make it as safe as possible; keeping that distance. I wouldn’t discourage mask use at all. Construction workers use them for dust protection and fume protection. They should be finding it pretty normal to consider a mask as well, for COVID protection. I think it’s important work.” - Professor Brett Sutton, Victorian Chief Health Officer.

We're doing the right thing.

“The proposal by Labor unveiled last week to make restrictions to 457-style skilled visas was "a bit disappointing" given many small businesses involved in home building are already struggling to recruit and train tradies.

A number of construction worker categories, including bricklayers, carpenters and joiners and electricians, are on the list of occupations for the 'medium term' temporary skills shortage visa, the 482 class visa.”

Builders peak body says there needs to be a global recruitment plan.
