GRAMPIANS UPDATE

Explore More in Dunkeld & Cavendish 💚

While parts of the Grampians (Gariwerd) National Park remain closed, there are still some beautiful walks open in Dunkeld and Cavendish for you to enjoy, but please remember to monitor conditions.

Dunkeld:
✅Dunkeld to Mt Sturgeon Walk
✅Arboretum Walk
✅Heritage Walk

Cavendish:
✅Settlers Walk

The Southern Grampians (Gariwerd) National Park remains closed due to the forecast current weather conditions. This includes:
❌Mt Abrupt Mud-Dadjug Walk
❌Mt Sturgeon Wurgarri Walk
❌Piccaninny Bainggug Walk

✅The Grampians Tourist Road from Dunkeld to Halls Gap is currently open.
✅The Henty Highway from Cavendish to Horsham is currently open

Grampians Gariwerd National Park – Bushfire Update & Partial Reopening

Following recent lightning strikes, multiple bushfires are still active in the Grampians Gariwerd National Park. While large areas remain closed to support firefighting efforts and ensure safety, some visitor sites in the Southern Grampians remain untouched and have now reopened.

Now Open: Southern Grampians
✅Mt Sturgeon Wurgarri
✅Mt Abrupt Mud-Dadjug
✅Piccaninny Bainggug
✅Signal Peak
✅Grampians Peaks Trail (Dunkeld to Cassidy Gap – day walks only)

✅Grampians Tourist Road (between Halls Gap and Dunkeld)
✅Victoria Valley Road via Mirranatwa Gap

❌Camping and overnight hikes are not permitted
❌All other areas of the National Park, including visitor sites, walking tracks, roads, and access tracks, remain closed

Hamilton to Coleraine Rail Trail - An adventure waiting to be explored! Ideal for walkers and mountain bikers, this trail offers stunning western district pastoral views and a connection to nature.

Starting on the outskirts of Hamilton, the first section leads to the Wannon Falls Road, winding through beautiful red gum country and working farms. The second section begins along the Glenelg Highway, just 250m from the CFA shed in Wannon, showcasing rolling hills and wetlands as you head to Coleraine.

Whether you’re seeking a leisurely stroll or an exhilarating bike ride, the Hamilton to Coleraine Rail Trail is a fantastic way to experience Western District landscapes. Mountain Bikes and Gravel Bikes are a popular choice for Rail Trail adventures

Due to a bushfire emergency, Grampians (Gariwerd) National Park is closed.

Whilst this is not the news we would all like to read leading into this holiday season, and we understand this will affect many, it’s important to be safe.

We thank the many volunteers and crews who are working to protect properties.

If you need assistance to discuss your travel plans please contact our staff at the Hamilton or Dunekld Visitor Information Centres on 1800 807 056 and they will do their best to connect you to the right information.
