Renovations at Black Mamba
After many delays... years of delays, we are finally able to start our renovations. This means we'll be closed to guests for a few months. Not ideal given we've had a cracking start to the ski season, but we had to take our building window or risk further delays.
We're working with some cracking local builders and we can't wait to share our updated cabin with you.
While we love everything about our little house in the bush, it just wasn't practical with a young family. We really craved the extra lounge space and not having to cross the deck in the middle of winter. We'll also be adding a mud room for all that wet and muddy gear.
Stay tuned for renovation updates. Keep your fingers crossed everything goes to plan and we'll see you in September when we're done!
Fishing at the Mountain Fresh Trout and Salmon Farm
We visit Mountain Fresh Trout and Salmon Farm every school holidays. The kids have so much fun and it's amazing how patiently they can sit with a fishing rod in their hands. It's almost the only fish I can get them to eat willingly. There is something exciting about catching your own dinner. Today it took 1 hour to catch 3 yummy fish. One tiger trout, a rainbow trout and a salmon. It's only 6km out of Harrietville and there is cycling path all the way there. #Harrietville #Schoolholidays
The start of the Bungalow Spur track heading up to #Feathertop is just a short walk from Black Mamba House. There are lots of great hiking options heading up this track. Sometimes I do a trail run a couple of kms up. Or we take the kids on a leisurely stroll, when we know we won't get far and have plenty of time and patience.
But when you have the whole day, pack a sandwich and a protein bar, head up to Feathertop and enjoy the views. Along the way, you will find the old Feathertop Hut site, which was often used as a base for skiing back in the 30s. Check out some of the history of the Feathertop Hut at

For all the hikers and runners, I will post a few more hiking options in coming days. Now is a great time to plan your Summer and Easter breaks. Accommodation in regional Victoria is booking fast. There are so many hidden gems in Regional Victoria.
