October is Cruise Month – so lots of specials. Below is a recap of what has happened so far:
29 Sep – 5th October – Ocean Cruising
🛳 Gone are the days of a floating RSL, there is a cruise for everyone. From large mega ships with shopping malls and rock climbing walls to medium sized Goldilocks ships to smaller vessels with elegance, refined dining and the ability to go into the smaller ports.

6th – 12th October – River Cruising
🏞 Such a relaxing way to travel and as well as being popular in Europe, did you know you can also cruise down the Nile or the rivers of Vietnam and Cambodia?

13th - 19th October - Expedition Cruising
🌅 Take the road less travelled, thing Galapagos Islands, the Arctic and Antarctic, remote Pacific Islands and much more

Not everything that happens in Vegas stays in Vegas and 3 nights was just the tip of the iceberg.

Contrary to popular belief, Las Vegas is not just casinos and showgirls.

Visiting the various hotels is a novelty in itself with properties that have rollercoasters inside, roller coasters outside, fountain shows, serenading gondoliers and much more.

In a couple of days we managed to:
* Fly in a helicopter to the Grand Canyon
* Saw a Cirque du Soleil show and a cabaret show
* Sci-Fi robots and IMax
* Visited a 4 story M&Ms shop, 2 story coke-a-cola shop
* Realised that casinos are like Ikea stores in that once you are, in you can't find your way out😁

There is shopping galore, canoeing the Colorado River, visit Hoover Dam and much much more

A great 2 days/3 nights in San Francisco, will have to come back for longer next time, however we managed to pack a fair bit in with the time we had.
* City tour in a very dodgey bus😬
* Golden Gate Bridge
* Movie location hunt for The Sweetest Thing movie
* Ride on a Trolley Car
* Clam Chowder at Fisherman's Wharf
* Watched the AFL grand final in a local pub - the walk there was a bit hairy
* Drove out to Davis to catch up with our exchange student in 2017
* Dinner at Bubba Gump's
* Ride in an autonomous car (driverless) - a surreal experience

Thank you Alaska, you have certainly impressed. 1441 miles of driving (Jason drove around 100 of those 😁).
Glaciers galore, autumn colours, towering mountains 🏔, northern lights, bald eagles, sea lions, otters and moose 🫎..... no bears so we have to come back.

Look out San Francisco, here we come.

I have just realised that my FB posts haven't been coming across to Insta so will have to do a catch up of the last week later.
Anyway.....today we left the cute town of Valdez (pronounced Valdeez) and are staying at Sheep Mountain in a cosy little cabin with more spectacular views.

Yesterday we travelled from Fairbanks to Valdez. A longish road trip with plenty of photo stops along the way including the township of The North Pole🎅🤶.
This was an alternative to travelling back to Anchorage the same way we came.
We thought we had seen our fill of snow capped mountains but we were mistaken🏔

Well this just happened ...... .mind you it is 2.30am here.

A great day in Fairbanks today with a visit to the Fountainhead Motor Museum where they have a great collection of vintage cars displayed with mannequins dressed in period clothing matching the vehicle.
We then drove up to Chena Hot Springs for a relaxing soak in the thermal pool.
No Northern Lightd yet as it has been fairly overcast.

Yesterday was the road trip from Talkeetna to Denali/Healy. Normally a 2.5hr trip if you drive straight through, however with stops along the way we managed to make a day if it.

Today we backed up with a day in Denali National Park and although some of the park has closed up for the winter, we still had access to a fare amount and we even had light snow fall❄️

Yesterday was another scenery sensory overload and a trip that I have previously booked clients on.

We boarded the Alaska Railroad train for their Coastal Classic 🚂 to the seaside town of Seward. It was an early morning start with a 6.45am departure for the 4 hour trip, travelling in the Gold Star ✨️ domed carriage which also included a delicious breakfast and drinks.

Upon arrival in Seward we boarded a boat for a 6 hour Wildlife and Glacier Cruise with Major Marine Tours, we got up close and personal to a glacier and witnessed it calving (breaking off)🏔. We also came across a humpback whale, sea otters and sea lions🐳🦭.

After this wonderful cruise we again boarded the train for the trip back to Anchorage, enjoying the scenery🦅 in a different light and a scrumptious dinner.

Another fabulous day at sea yesterday sailing into College Fjords.

The name comes from the young explorers who decided to name all the glaciers in the fjords after American Colleges, eg Yale, Harvard and Smith to name a few. There was no Princeton Glacier as they were all I agreeance that none of them liked Princeton😄

Yesterday we stopped in at Skagway, a gorgeous town that looks like it belongs on the set of a western movie🏘.

Due to a landslide we had to take the ship tenders to the dock, where we caught a ferry to Haines. Haines used to be the site of a military base but now mainly services the tourism industry with it's main focus on outdoor adventure.🏕

Here we went kayaking on the gorgeous Chilkoot lake and saw the last of the salmon spawning.

Our first port of call is Ketchikan, Alaska's Salmon capital. 4 ships at once makes this a busy little town.
