The St Albans Common

The St Albans Common is situated on an alluvial flat extending upstream on Mogo Creek from the junction with the Macdonald River, only a few kms north of St Albans Village. The Common was set aside in 1824 for use by settlers and their descendants, is managed by trustees.

The fertile flood plains in the river valley were cleared for agricultural purposes during the first half of the nineteenth century. In some areas the original swamps remain. In these plains the Commoners keep their cattle and horses.

The wetland area provides habitat for incredible waterbirds.

A beautiful place to walk.
