Hazelwood Lodge Catherine Martindale is an experienced and qualified riding instructor. She has been riding since she was four years old.

She has sixteen years experience in Pony Club, competing at the top end of Pony club since she was 14yrs old, and now actively and successfully competes in Equestrian Federation of Australia (EA) events. Catherine is a NCAS Level 2 eventing specialist coach and coach educator who have competed at 3 star levels. Catherine teaches all levels of riding right from someone’s first ride thru to the seri

ous competitor. Catherine teaches jumping and Dressage at different Pony Clubs and adult riding clubs in the Gippsland and Metropolitan areas. Starting with basic trot poles then progressing up to more advanced grid work. Safety and building confidence is the key to her teaching methods. Catherine also has her racehorse trainer’s license, which required 2 years of TAFE training, which has enhanced her knowledge of horse husbandry and handling skills, to benefit her own competition and teaching skills. Hazelwood Lodge is set on 31 ac in the Latrobe Valley. It has a fully enclosed 65 x 25 m sand arena, 800 m sand track, undercover brick round yard, numerous covered day yards and horse wash. Hazelwood Lodges offers a variety of activities to enhance peoples riding skills in a safe supervised environment. This is achieved by matching each persons ability to our horses or ponies. Children are taught to care for and maintain their horse or pony in a fun environment. Different activities such as dressage, jumping, games and activities are designed to give people confidence on their mounts. These activities are all tailored to the individual ability of each person. Catherine gives lessons in practical Horse mastership that is tailored to suit the age and experience of each individual person.

From ride 1 on the 17th August 2024 to today, I think I can well and truly say she is a qualified school pony! Pixie is the most delightful new addition to the team who already has a large fan club! 💙💛💙💛

Proud pony mummy post!
Yesterday I took the Rosedale Pony Club flat team to the State Champs at Baccus Marsh! The team was made up of 2 of our OTT TB’s Shootist and Rules Alot ( home bred) and 2 of our school horses Indie and No Shame both originally purchased as unbroken youngsters! All being ridden by teenagers I teach! The girls did an amazing job and placed in all their events!

Caitlin King, Gypsy Rohde & I had a wonderful day competing at Briag & District Pony Club dressage day last month! Hazelwood Lodge pony camps have been running every school holidays since December 2002. Students stay in bunk rooms in the house and have 2 lessons/ day Monday - Friday. All meals, lessons, accommodation and pony hire/ agistment for those bringing their own horse is included.
