It is with disappointment that we have to postpone our Urangan Pier Clean Up dive 🤿 It's no surprise to anyone in Hervey Bay, that after all the flooding and wild weather, it has left our local waterways turbid and muddy 🌨

We had hopes that with a good week of weather, the water would clear up enough to complete the dive however, with continued rain this week, the inshore waters around the pier are close to zero visibility and with uncertainty of what debris or potential entanglements we would encounter under the pier, our risk assessment has deemed the dive unsafe.

We have rescheduled the dive to after the 22nd April with the exact day to be announced closer to the time pending weather.

In the meantime, we will be scheduling clean up dives on the local artificial reefs as soon as the water clears up a bit.

Just Over 3 Weeks Until Our Underwater Clean-Up at Urangan Pier! 🤿

Hey, ocean warriors! We’re just a little over 3 weeks away from our exciting Dive for a Cause – Urangan Pier Clean-Up happening on Friday, 4th April from 12:30pm to 2:30pm!

This is your chance to join us below the waves and make a real difference in protecting our precious marine environment. With limited spots available for experienced divers, we still need a few more passionate scuba enthusiasts to help us tackle the debris that endangers our sea life! 🐢

💼 What’s in Store?
- Protect Marine Life: Help safeguard the creatures that call our waters home by removing harmful plastics and fishing lines.
- Create Awareness: Engage with others about the impact of ocean pollution and learn more about sustainable practices.
- Be Part of Something Bigger: This isn’t just a dive; it’s a collective movement to preserve the beauty of Hervey Bay!

📍 Location: Urangan Pier (last 100m at the end of the pier)
💰 Cost: $50 per diver (includes some support for costs & gear hire if needed).

We get asked regularly, “whenever I go out it’s murky” 💭
Here are some hot local tips for snorkelling the reefs in Hervey Bay 🔥🪸🐠

🤿 Never snorkel alone, always bring a buddy
🤿 Wear reef-safe sunscreen. Certain chemicals harm coral reefs and can cause them to bleach!
🤿 Check the weather forecast and snorkel on a SE wind
🤿 If there has been bad weather, the rain will stir up the water
🤿 Go on an outgoing low tide (before it turns and the tide comes back in)
🤿 Walk knee-deep and if you can see your feet, the vis is great for snorkeling
🤿 Never sit, stand or touch coral!
🤿 As our corals are shallow water coral reefs, bring a floating device to help you float or something to hold onto so you don’t get tired. (We take a paddle board or noodle to hold onto)
🤿 Bring your coralhealth chart and collect data 😉
🤿 Need some confidence? Salty Safaris Hervey Bay is doing snorkelling on the reefs 🪸

🪸Just remember these reefs are unique because they are so close to shore. Yes, you might not get the standards of Lady Elliot but to appreciate what we have so close. These reefs go through a lot as they are close to urban areas - from coastal development, runoff, light pollution, over fishing and so much more.
