Walk gently!

Have you wondered where the reefs are? Here’s a map of the reefs in Hervey Bay. Us Hervey Bay coral ambassadors are excited to be able to name the coral reefs this year, which will be added into the coralwatch data base 🪸🐢

We have a brand new green zone which is the Pialba reef! All reefs in Hervey Bay can be snorkelled on. On the side we have indicated what reefs are most easiest to get to which include Torquay, Scarness and The Gables Coral reefs.

To access reefs from sandy beach:
🪸 Torquay reefs is directly out the front of Aquavue.

🪸Scarness reef 1 easy access in front of the Maryborough Sailing Club and directly out the front of Enzos on the beach.

Access from rocks:
🪸The Gables reef can be accessed through rocks directly in front of public toilets.

🐢When is the best time to go out? SE winds is the best to go snorkelling just before low tide.

🐢 When shouldn’t I go out? Always snorkel with a buddy. Northally winds are not the best to go out as it stirs up the water also after a storm 🥲

🧴 Remember to wear reef safe sunscreen on the reefs.

🪸 Do not sit or stand on corals.

Feel free to ask us any questions. Please let us know if you are interested in collecting data on our reefs! 🪸🐢

Well done to Marine Rescue Hervey Bay! What a great service they provide for us. I’m very proud to say that Mark Cooper owner and skipper of our lovely Freedom has joined their crew and will be taking his turn on these shifts in the very near future. Mark is a loyal volunteer and worked for Marine Rescue in NSW for many years, skippering the rescue boats and mentoring and training new recruits. Visit Fraser Coast

Ben Cropp commissioned Freedom III back in 1993 as a platform for his exploration filming and diving adventures.

Ben Cropp is not proud of the way he rose to fame. The 88-year-old sea dog tells about the pivotal moment that made him stop killing sharks and why his next adventure might be his biggest yet.
