MARY POPPINS FESTIVAL 2021 POSTPONED!

The iconic Mary Poppins Festival has been rescheduled to be held on 26th-29th August due to COVID-19 restrictions imposed on parts of Queensland today.

Queensland’s Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk announced parts of the state will go into a three-day lockdown from 6pm tonight. Local Government Areas affected include Townsville, Palm Island, Brisbane, Ipswich, Logan City, Moreton Bay, Redlands, Sunshine Coast, Noosa, Somerset, Lockyer Valley, Scenic Rim and the Gold Coast.

Due to kick off on Thursday 1st July, the Mary Poppins event was scheduled to run over four days in Maryborough, culminating in the popular Day in The Park on Sunday 4th July.

Fraser Coast Tourism & Events and Fraser Coast Regional Council decided late today that in the interest of public health and safety, the festival should be postponed until the current outbreak is under control. The event was expected to attract thousands of participants, with many travelling from southeast Queensland where many areas have now been placed into lockdown.

“Mary Poppins is one of the most resilient characters in literary history, so it makes perfect sense that the festival remains a feature of the 2021 event calendar,” Event Manager Robyn Peach said.

“Postponing it to the 26th-29th of August is in the best interest of the community and the event, which will remain a celebration of the wonderful world of storytelling through the imagination of artists from a variety of mediums”.

The Mary Poppins Festival will now run from Thursday 26th – 29th August 2021.
