We never get tired of watching the magical antics of dolphins on our wilderness cruises: the speed, the power, the elegance and "just chilling" cruise mode. Whatever is on display always takes your breath away. Tasman Island Cruises skipper Drew took this pic recently highlighting the effortless power of these wonderful creatures.

A flotilla of our yellow boats was on display from Port Arthur on Sunday. "The Blade" is our catamaran that takes walkers to the start of the Three Capes Track. Our larger catamaran, "Port Arthur Explorer" was built specifically for our new Cape Raoul Cruise from the Port Arthur Historic Site. And our RIB "Oystercatcher" takes guests on our Tasman Island Cruise. We are so fortunate to be able to explore the magical Tasman Peninsula region in different ways. It is such a special part of the world to discover. Thanks to skipper Drew for sharing this pic.

There is a lot to be on the look 👀 out for on our wilderness cruises including soaring sea cliffs and coastal wildlife and maybe a climber or two. Skipper Luke snapped these super cool pics of a climber at Cape Hauy on yesterday's Tasman Island Cruise from Port Arthur.

We are excited to be providing a special return cruise from Hobart to take in the Australian Wooden Boat Festival Parade of Sail on Friday 7th February 2025.

It's a thrilling sight to see the flotilla of wooden vessels, led by the mighty Tall Ships, as they make their way up the River Derwent in a spectacular celebration of the wooden boat community in the opening event of this iconic biennial festival.

Commencing at 10am, our cruise will also explore the River Derwent, its beautiful beaches, sea cliffs and the Iron Pot, Australia's oldest lighthouse before joining the flotilla of over 200 wooden boats and other vessels.

The cruise will conclude at around 1:30/2:00pm (depending on the conclusion of the Parade of Sail). You are welcome to BYO lunch to enjoy on the cruise if you wish.

Friday 7th February 2025
Adults $135, Children $100 (Under 16 yrs)

Some days you just need a hug 🤗. And these Australian fur seals look like they are particularly snuggly. Did you know Australian fur seals are 'positively thigmotactic' which means they actively seek contact with other seals when resting ashore. Interestingly, long nose fur seals (which we also see on our cruises) are intolerant of being touched when resting ashore. Thanks to Tasman Island Cruises skipper Drew for this very cute pic.

Look closely - can you see the rock climbers on Cape Raoul? The Tasman Peninsula is revered as a rock climbing region for experienced climbers. One of the classic climbs is 'Pole Dancer', a vertical pillar of dolerite at the tip of Cape Raoul. Climbers definitely get a jaw dropping view as they ascend and descend the pillars of Cape Raoul but we are pretty happy with the view we get looking up from our vessel on our Cape Pillar Cruise from the Port Arthur Historic Site. Thanks to skipper Drew for these pics and the close up just in case you couldn't spot the climbers.

Our Cape Raoul and Tasman Island Cruises guests witnessed a feeding frenzy of albatross and dolphins today. There were hundreds of albatross including Shy, Bullers and Indian yellow-nosed albatross, joined by common dolphins for this spectacular lunch along the Tasman Peninsula. Thanks to crew member Ange for sharing this beautiful image.

Even on a moody day the Iron Pot Lighthouse shines bright at the mouth of the River Derwent. A beacon to mariners since 1832, it is Australia's oldest original lighthouse tower. Its distinctive obloid (square) shape certainly attracts attention on our daily Iron Pot Cruise from Hobart. Thanks to skipper Sam for sharing this pic.

The Tasman Peninsula looks spectacular rain, hail or shine. Todays's weather brought some moody hues which added to the awesomeness of the soaring cliffs of Cape Pillar. Thanks to Tasman Island Cruises skipper Drew for sharing this stunning picture.

Well look who we ran into in today's Iron Pot Cruise - a leatherback turtle. These turtles are commonly sighted feeding in the coastal waters of central eastern Australia. With the warmer conditions we have been experiencing, it is likely that they have been following food. Yesterday we also spotted quite a few jellyfish which is a favourite food of the leatherback turtle. Thanks to skipper Sam for the pics.

The columnar cliffs of Cape Raoul are spectacular from any angle. Our Cape Raoul Cruise gets up close and personal to these rugged soaring cliffs so you can see the fur seals at the base and maybe look for potential climbers. Crew member Sam spotted a climber in the first picture. Zoom in close to the middle of the photo. It is amazing to see experienced climbers tackling these 250 metre high cliffs. We are quite happy to be watching from below 😱🤣

We often see pictures of blue bioluminescence at night but these stunning pics showcase red bioluminescence (red tide) as spotted by skipper Sam on our Iron Pot Cruise. It is a result of tiny organisms such as algae going through an intense growth period and is commonly seen in eastern and south eastern Tasmania. Skipper Sam took these images around Betsey Island and said this was one of the most spectacular bioluminescence occurrences he has ever seen.

We are so excited to be welcoming the first guests on our Cape Raoul Cruise tomorrow from the Port Arthur Historic Site. We will be running tours daily at 10.45am and 1.15pm. The 90 minute cruise takes in the awesome coastline of the Tasman Peninsula from Port Arthur Historic Site to Cape Raoul. The columnar dolerite cliffs of Cape Raoul soar over 250 metres above sea level and will certainly take your breath away. And don't forget there are some cheeky Australian fur seals lounging at the base of the Cape 😊. We just love exploring this part of the world and are privileged to be able to add this new adventure to our group of tours - www.caperaoulcruises.com.au
