A bit of Christmas joy for ya all..........
Brumbies Bindi and Sunny giving Christmas joy to our Dalgety Community with reindeer rides at our local Christmas party . Just love those smiles on the kids and mum and dads.
You can't get better than a brumby. A hour before these brumbies were living with their mob out in the wild paddock of over 400 acres of bushland and then straight onto the truck and giving back with ease and comfort and enjoying the pats from our locals....can't get a better horse than that.
The SBH brumby mob a arvo nap break during filming day with the ABC Backroads show. Brumbies Sammy, Bluey, Sunny, Sandy, Trinity, Twisty, Dalgety, Rally, Blondie and Jindy all helping out.
Can't thank Bushy enough for having us at Bushgrove on the Snowy River. And yep you can stay here. Look him up or contact us for more details.
Great day filming with the ABC Backroads crew. Can't thank our brumby mob enough plus our brumby human team
Update and an apology.
The new boys settling in well. To take on any brumby male a stallion enclosure is a must.
A huge apology to Mt Brumby Sanctuary who was the name given for rehoming of the Kiandra mare and stallion but instead they went to another 'sanctuary'. Also the couple who cared for the Brumbies did feed them but they knew they were in a bad way and were seeking help.
Please before you just give donations or set up fundraising, be sure you know where the funds are being spent and is it sustainable. If you plan to own Brumbies then you need to pay for their feed, and you need large areas of land to give them space to move and to rest grazing areas.
If you would like to know more about their long term care please get in touch.
Brumby Teddy is very much like his owner!
He's lovin' his summer of ride training here working hard most afternoons to relearn not to buck.
Maybe it was the slurp of Great Northern, but just after this he did his first ride with no bucking and we finally got the change we had been working on.
Good boy mate, you have many a mt camp adventure with your owner now ahead. Just have to keep your muzzle out of the Esky.
Brumby Teddy we met at Crookwell clinic and his best mate Andy. Many had their theories why this riding brumby began to buck.....
But now with us for a summer of ride training and rehab he has been seen by Veterinary Professor Reuben Rose with an all clear regarding any bone damage for us to continue training. He may have muscle soreness from bad saddlery or even learnt copping behaviours..
So when this week a great young man from Tassie who is studying Sports Equine Massage Therapy come to be with us for a couple of days Brumby Teddy and many others lined up for that special touch!
One of our Brumbies that was recently gifted to us some may know as Clover turned 4 this week, so we went for a very very long drive to buy her a present.....her mum.
The feel of that first brush for brumby mare Freebie. Tangles removed she changed from being on guard to trust.
Then opened up the gate and she walked to it and back in for more. The beginning of the partnership between a once wild horse and a human comes with letting down the guards that come with fear on both sides.
A quick fuel stop for trained brumby fillies Moody and Nifty Is not a problem.
These two exceptional Brumbies we have trained directly from the traps 2 years ago. Nothing worries them as no human has ever forced them or done any harm....
And after investing nearly $20 000 in our purpose built brumby transport crate, well we know every cent was worth it.
Thank you again to the charity team for raising the $3000 we needed to install the pull out loading ramp. Both Brumbies stood on it with ease and walked up calmly and with no stress.
Next transport is a long journey south to pick up the mother of a Brumby filly we call Beauty who had been gifted to us and we found her mum for sale...will keep you posted
The connection of a foal and it's mare continues for years. They are their everything in understanding the world they are in.
Brumby mare Sammy adopted Brumby Bluey when he was only a week or so old and had been stolen from his own mum. Now nearly two years later we took him for his first mountain holiday after our time in Canberra. They both took some much needed rest together.
Please never take a foal from its mum. Be it in the wild or rehoming or at their domestic paddock. A mare can loose weight feeding her foal. That is natural. But to loose their connection together is like us being ripped away from our own family. Please remember a horses happiness is more than just being fed.
Lead brumby mare Sammy has met nearly 50 other brums in her life here as my lead trainer...and many of them good lookin fellas.
But this young man has stolen her heart and plays and loves her adopted foal Bluey too.
Brumbies are just like us... They form deep bonds with those they love.
To all who came to our charity fundraising Wild Horse Weekend at Hall in Canberra...your money was spent on a $3000 slide out Brumby proof loading ramp to be fitted to our stock crate.
And two very thankful Brumbies walked up calmly and easily into our crate yesterday to be moved to a new home with much needed feed and space.
Thank you to all our S.B.H. team. This is what it means to help the once wild horse.
