Had a lake bash with two young keen Queenslanders in very poor summer conditions.
The boys keen attitudes got us the win here.
Alex and Jo had never caught a trout before but walked away with a pigeon pair from eucumbene. The boys learned the basics of entomology and how to present the right bugs in a finesse manner.
This trout fishing is a bit different to the barra they are use too.
Can’t wait for next time boys!

Rod Allen and Natasha went out to lake eucumbene today to work on general casting and rod skills.
Natasha has progressed well in a short time being guided by rod, and because of her ability to take instructions well and execute the essential needs to be able to have success. Tash was rewarded with this beautiful wild brown trout.. her first fish on a fly. A bloody good one too.

Well done natasha you deserve that brownie! 👏🏼👏🏼

Had great fun on a half day with Lucas from northern Sydney in the mountains over the weekend. Lucus learned about fly choice and entomology and what to look for when polaroiding trout in still water. A bit different to what he’s use to being a stream angler.
We found a few nice willing wild browns unfortunately the hooks didn’t find a good spot. Never mind we walked away with a lovely brownie on a dry and some skills on the lake. Well done man you fished well and followed instructions to a tee. Can’t wait till next time!

Bit of a pic dump and report.
The fishing is still decent though with the warm weather we have experienced this week. Breaking 30 degrees and isolated storm cells missing the areas that desperately need it.
We did get one good does across the head waters of some trophy trout streams though that only freshened up streams for a few days giving clients and ourselves good safe fishing for less then a week. As I write this I’d say they would be off limits till we get some rain or consecutive cool days provided the flows are okay. The last thing we want is to damage fishery’s and we teach these ethics to our clients so they can enjoy the fishery’s we hope others adopt this too.

Not to worry too much as we are still finding good fish as the mountains come into there own with terrestrials showing up. Lake eucumbene has had great falls of various beetles as with the rest of the mountains. June beetles seeming to be the most preferred as well. Good because they’re the bigger one you can see😂
Rivers such as the thredbo snowy and euc are still relatively cool and have copped flushes making good sport. Alpine lakes are starting to be worthy options especially the lakes above or around 1400 after the good falls have brought fish in close. This should only get better as the bigger morsels show up.

A personal photo dump over the month.
Our diary’s at present are patchy with only the last week of November booked. I’m not really complaining as I’ve had a chance to capitalise on good personal fishing.
So if you feel like being fast trecked while In the area we may be able to help you out with a trophy rainbow brown or even a brookie.
we also do gift cards for Christmas if you guys are stumped for a gift.

Most rivers are picking up now with fish on the feed where the lakes seem to be day to day bank to bank until a event like mudeyes get em fired up.

We took on the wet and wild weather and had our wins!
Even on dry fly😅

Stell had all sorts against him and stayed focused and got rewarded. Goes to show there’s no such thing as a bad day on the water. Especially with a versatile approach.
We actually had a insane dun hatch that lasted 30min.

Great couple of days showing Adam Simpson
Around our local trophy trout waters.
Adam fished really well and was rewarded with his patience.
The goal was one good fish on a dry fly. We achieved that goal and also worked on subsurface fishing to sighted fish.
Well done Adam. Beautiful fish mate.

Certainly dosnt feel like autumn with the warm weather of late. Though as I write it’s threatening rain and that is welcome.
The fish are still cooperating and even though some waters are low and beginning to warm up I think we will see some great fishing in the lower rivers with a bit of rain and a cool off. I’ve been staying off these streams for a while now and dying to revisit.
hoppers again have been pretty late and hope to see some great fishing as we approach the end of the season. Hopefully like last year we will have a hopper frenzy before the spawn.

We have availability’s for some of March and April.

Jessica Allen and Emma had there first crash course with ctho and boy did they fish well.
Jess with a goal of a big brook trout. She managed that on here first day along with a snowy river brownie.
The girls also caught browns and bows on the moonbah the next morning and then set off to the thredbo for the afternoon.
On the last session both the girls got stuck into some serious rainbow trout one being of trophy status.
A male at 5lb what better way to end a snowy mountains fishing adventure. Well done Jess.
The girls stayed at Freaks of Nature Retreat and loved being near the water 💯 of there stay.
For people that want a rural but luxurious style stay on Australia’s most iconic river, that seriously caters for anyone.
It’s hard to recommend anyone else.
Well done ladies!!

Bit of a photo dump from some personal fishing.
The fishing in general has been good. The weather has been the only thing that’s made the fishing at times unpredictable. For now it seems to have stabilised into true summer! About time 🙏☺️
I still have bookings for Feb and the end of March inquire within. Just a warning it’s peak season for me before I pull up on the rivers so these spots generally get taken up fast due to the great dry fly fishing opportunities 🤟
