The Fodmap Fairy

The Fodmap Fairy This is a page for those who have an interest in low FODMAP diets (more about that later) This is a double sugar molecule. Monosaccharides – “mono” means single.

Through my business "JindiLicious Gourmet Foods" and my personal experiences, it has come to my attention that I'm not alone. There are many of us who are healthier when we eat a low FODMAP diet - FODMAP being an acronym for "Fermentable – meaning they are broken down (fermented) by bacteria in the large bowel
Oligosaccharides – “oligo” means “few” and “saccharide” means sugar. These molecules mad

e up of individual sugars joined together in a chain
Disaccharides – “di” means two. This is a single-sugar molecule. And
Polyols – these are sugar alcohols (however don’t lead to intoxication!)" **fodmap.com**
I am finding more people have questions, whether they have never heard the term FODMAP before, or whether they have spent time trying to work out their own diet, through trying foods one at a time. We are all different, with personal likes and dislikes as well as personal dietary needs, but it is becoming increasingly obvious that by sharing our experiences, we can help each other...and I hope that people will feel safe sharing their experiences here, and that we can all learn from one another :) Please remember that that is the aim here, we're not here to criticize another's choice...but education is empowerment. I do not have any formal qualifications in food or nutrition other than completing a Cert IV in Nursing over 10 years ago, and I understand about dietary sensitivities first hand. My background in food goes back over 40 years. I'm capable of resourcing and providing food to many, or a few, within their needs and budget. I read recipes and food ideas as research on a daily basis, particularly over the last 2 years trying to come to terms with my own food intolerances. I have learnt to make substitutions which my body will accept, and offered advice to those who have asked for my help. I hope that we can all help one another through this page.

We were promised more products with the FODMAP symbol but I've only seen a few. Does anyone buy them? Or do we prefer to trust our own cooking?

For me, grain free = pain free. Plus avoiding fructose. Anyone else finding this?

Do you drink skinny milk? Maybe worth thinking about this.

Do you drink skinny milk? Maybe worth thinking about this.

Ordering your morning skinny latte? Did you know low-fat milk varieties actually contain more Sugar, more lactose and more casein than regular milk? Not to mention an fRg ranking of 38.0.
Give an Almond Milk Latte a go instead and let us know if you feel the difference. https://whatnot2eat.wordpress.com/2017/05/24/the-skinny-latte-myth/

Though personally I have chosen to remain grain free, this is interesting reading for those low FODMAPers who wish to eat some wheat.

Contrary to popular belief the low FODMAP diet is not a wheat free diet! Just remember when it comes to consuming wheat-base products portion size...

Most people with irritable bowel syndrome and/or a FODMAP problem either have diarrhoea or constipation. Diarrhoea is caused either by too much liquid entering the bowel or by food moving too fast through the bowel and there is no time for the normal drying out process to take place or the drying ou...

Worth thinking about....reducing the amount of fibre in my diet certainly worked for me!

http://davidgillespie.org/4-good-reasons-not-to-add-fibre-to-your-diet/

Nutritionists have been telling us to pump up the fibre in our diet for 44 years. But the evidence is now in. Not only is that pointless. In at least one case, it is very likely to be harmful.

How did you go with your Christmas dinner? What variations did you use to stick with low-FODMAP eating?

08/11/2015

Dear Foodlovers, if you're wanting a batch of our delicious fudge, brownies or nougat prior to Christmas, you'll need to be quick, because sadly we are closing at the end of November. Trays of fudge $30, brownies $40 or nougat $4 per piece will be available to order by 20th November, to be made fresh just for you, but then no more.

I will be running a workshop or two if people are interested in making their own gluten-free, grain-free, or low carb foods.

I have now been cooking, eating and sharing low-FODMAP, grain-free and LCHF (low-carb, healthy fats) for over 2 years. Many people are finding this way of eating easy and sustainable to follow, and finding benefits include better health, reduced IBS symptoms, reduced hayfever symptoms, and reduced joint stiffness & inflammation and this has been true for me also, along with loss of weight and actually keeping it off! Many have also reversed their type II diabetes.

If you have questions, if you're curious, or if you'd like to meet some like-minded foodlovers and learn some low carb cooking ideas and techniques, along with sharing some low carb food, please register your interest via message here and I'll organize a venue dependent upon numbers. Last time we made low carb pizza! YUM! :) Thanks for reading, and I hope to hear from you soon!

Happy Monday! :) Dear foodlovers, many of you have followed my adventures with real food, low-FODMAP, paleo, grain-free, and LCHF (low-carb, high-fat or Banting) over the past 6 years, and many have requested information along the way. I have now been cooking, eating and sharing low-FODMAP, grain-free and LCHF food and recipes for almost 2 years, and I held a workshop recently which was very well received. Many people are finding this easy and sustainable to follow, and finding benefits include better health, reduced IBS symptoms, reduced hayfever symptoms, and reduced joint stiffness & inflammation and this has been true for me also, along with loss of weight and actually keeping it off! If you have questions, if you're curious, or if you'd like to meet some like-minded foodlovers and learn some low carb cooking ideas and techniques, along with sharing some low carb food, please register your interest via message here and I'll organize a venue dependent upon numbers. Welcome to our new likers! Feel free to add a low-FODMAP recipe, review of a restaurant or cafe where you've felt welcome and eaten a good low-FODMAP meal, or share a heads up for other low-FODMAP eaters :)

Yesterday I attended a lecture by Dr Sue Shepherd at a trade show. She has teamed up with Coeliac Victoria and Tasmania Inc. and they will be presenting courses to assist people working with food to prepare and present gluten-free foods safely. This is a huge step forward and I hope that many people will be attending these courses and following the guidelines so that there will be an increase in confidence for those of us who are Coeliacs or gluten-intolerant. She also presented an explanation of FODMAPs and I hope that people in attendance also took that on board. It would be wonderful to see more community awareness of IBS, an affliction which directly affects up to 20 percent of our community.
