Yes, the fire season has arrived to the Huon Valley. UHFB responded to a smoke investigation call-out out the back of Lonnavale yesterday and discovered the live edge of a burned coupe on MacDougalls Road was causing the pillar of smoke visible from Glen Huon and Judbury.

We assisted the STT officer and contract firefighting crew with extinguishing spot-overs in the unburnt forest areas from our trucks. We could fill up our tanks from a lovely spot on the Denison River, but the fire’s heat and unpredictable wind meant the fire front kept growing despite our best efforts.

Air support and the work of a Bennetts’ dozer have now contained the fire, and a chopper continues to drop water on it today. STT continues to manage the fire, and our trucks are back in the station to be ready to respond to incidents in our area.

If you’re lighting a fire on your property, please register it with the TFS by calling 1800 000 699, so we know when and where smoke is expected. In this fire season, permits are required for any burns over 1 cubic meter, and always check the weather conditions and forecast before lighting anything up.

CAR SCAVENGER HUNT
Want a great day out with friends and or family. Well come along to our Halloween themed Car Scavenger Hunt.
As a team you will travel around our lovely local area finding destinations and things unseen before and tackle different tasks to earn yourself points.
All teams will need a smart phone in order to take photos or video as proof of completing each task that will then be sent to the judges via text. As well as scan QR codes.
Prizes will be awarded to the winning team/s as well as the best dressed team, so be creative, after all it will be Halloween.
Cost is $10 per person (includes a BBQ at the end of the hunt)

Tasmanians need to be prepared for challenging fire weather conditions towards the end of this week as hot temperatures, north-westerly winds and low humidity is expected to push the fire danger to severe in parts of the state.

The forecast has triggered a total fire ban to be declared for Thursday and Friday for all municipalities in the south, and Northern Midlands and Break O’Day in the north.

A total fire ban means it is illegal to light or to cause a fire to start in the open air. This includes (but is not limited to) incinerators, burn-offs, campfires, fire pots, and wood-fuelled barbecues.

The total fire ban applies to the following municipalities from 2am Thursday 30 January until 2am Saturday 1 February:

Brighton, Break O'Day, Central Highlands, Clarence, Derwent Valley, Glamorgan-Spring Bay, Glenorchy, Hobart, Huon Valley, Kingborough, Northern Midlands, Sorell, Southern Midlands and Tasman.

Update regarding fire Watsons Road, Glen Huon.

The fire is above 7th Day Road. Heavy winds have blown a tree down which has touched powerlines. A Fire Bird has knocked the fire down & crews from both Upper Huon & Huonville Brigades are currently blacking in out.
