A beginners guide to Sandy Cape.
The Sandy Cape Recreation Park laps the shoreline of the Jurien Bay Marine Park north of Jurien Bay and offers beachside camping.
The nearest Maccas or Hungry Jacks is in Geraldton. Sandy Cape is purely a camping area. No shops, coffee outlets or city souvenir stores.
There are no bookings as such, it is a first in first served campsite with 88 sites suitable for caravans, motor homes and tent sites.
Access is 2WD to the main campsite.
There are additional sites both north and south of the main campground, but these require 4X4 access only, and you will need to be equipped with a portable toilet as there are no facilities at these additional sites. Camping fees still apply.
There is a maximum stay of 4 nights but there are no set check in or check out times. It is advisable to plan your entry time around daylight hours as there is no lighting in the campgrounds.
There are no powered sites. Generators are fine but please run them during sociable hours.
Pets are allowed but do need to be kept on a leash in the campground (and public beaches) and their “doggy doings” need to be dealt with properly.
You will need to be self-contained with potable water (free water fills available in Jurien Bay on the corner of Doust Street and Bashford Street)
You may need strong pegs to pin down your awnings or flappy bits.
No campfires or solid fuel BBQ`s at this time of the year.
You can sandboard the dunes, snorkel your way around the Cape, swim or fish, and explore with your 4X4 to the remains of the WW2 Military bunkers at North Head.
