Guest House Rivermist is situated in the middle of Kangaroo Valley Township. It really is the best of both worlds.

The house is on 5 acres of Kangaroo River frontage with multiple living spaces, fireplace, outdoor verandah with BBQ and outdoor dining and six queen-size bedrooms, each with its own ensuite. Set back from the main street, the large paddocks, grazing alpacas and views across the valley offer country living, while a short 50m stroll along the driveway will land you in the middle of town. al or a drink at the Friendly Inn Hotel, superb Thai food at Jing Jo and delicious Indian from The Curry House. Buona Pizza also does pretty good take-away pizzas. Pick up a loaf of the world’s best sourdough bread from the General Store (or General Cafe), as well as locally produced olive oil, honey and deli products. In warmer weather, the local swimming pool is a short stroll along the main street (even shorter through the back paddock) and Bendeela Reserve on the Kangaroo River is also a great swimming option. If you’re looking to get out and about, you can hire a kayak and paddle down the Kangaroo River, enjoy one of the many bushwalks in the area, visit a local winery or even pop over to Shoalhaven or Culburra surf beaches or the relatively calm waters of Jervis Bay.

A few signs that the seasons are starting to turn. A scattering of fallen leaves on the driveway, the sun dipping down a little earlier each day, alpaca coats starting to lengthen and thicken in preparation for the cooler months. Autumn is a magical time in the Valley. Come and pay us a visit. 🍁

Kangaroo Valley is OPEN! You may have read some recent media coverage that makes it sound like KV is cut off due to flooding but the town is well and truly accessible from all directions (and not flooded). Moss Vale Rd via Bowral and the Highlands is open and Cambewarra Mountain via Bomaderry/Nowra is open so come on down (or up or across, depending on which direction you’re travelling from). The winter nights are cold in Kangaroo Valley but the days are often sunny and warm. Our alpacas have grown nice fluffy coats to see them through until the weather warms up. Inside we have a fireplace and central heating to make sure all the humans stay warm too. And in good news, Moss Vale Rd/Barrengarry Mountain from the Highlands is expected to reopen later this week!

Who’s looking forward to the long weekend?? Kangaroo Valley is open for business. Whether you’re staying the full weekend or visiting for the day, local businesses will be happy to see you. The road from Berry is open. Cambewarra Mountain (via Bomaderry) is now open full-time with some traffic lights where the road goes down to one lane. Barrengarry Mountain (from the highlands) is still closed while the landslides are repaired. Hope to see you soon!

Living up to the Rivermist name during the early morning sunrise and clearing to a beautiful, sunny Kangaroo Valley day. It might take a little bit longer to reach KV but it’s worth it. All the local businesses are still open and would love to see you soon!

Rivermist is more than a little soggy and we’ve had views of the Kangaroo Valley River that we don’t usually experience from our paddocks! The alpacas are happy in spite of their drenched coats, which should dry out in the next day or two. Access to KV is available via Cambewarra Mountain at the moment. (Barrengarry Mountain from from Fitzroy Falls is still closed.) The Kangaroo Valley Public Noticeboard FB group is a great source of information for road closures if you’re heading our way!

We’ve just had a last-minute cancellation at Rivermist for this coming weekend. The house is available from tomorrow 26th Jan (Australia Day) until Wednesday 2nd Feb. Welcome to the world baby alpaca! In a Rivermist tradition started by Madeleine and Tim, babies are named using the first letter of their mum’s name. We’re not sure yet if the newest addition to the herd is a girl or a boy but please hit us up with some ‘J’ name suggestions. (In the meantime, our kids are calling the baby Panda.) 🐼
