Passing of Brian Ward

Those members who have been in the club for some time will have fond memories of Brian Ward and his trusty guitar.

Brian and Robyn joined the club in the early days earning them the membership number of Q00035. Shortly after joining they attended the first ever National Muster in Byron Bay where Brian entertained members with his guitar playing and singing. They subsequently became members of the Country Cruisers in Queensland where he performed many an impromptu concert at Happy Hour or around the campfire at night but it was through the National Musters that Brian became well known to many. He was on the organising committee for the first National Muster at Bingara in 2010 but attended many more. He also assisted with the Beaudesert Muster where he walked around town seeking donations for the raffle and held singalongs each afternoon at happy hour. He and Robyn were a familiar sight around the grounds with Robyn being in a wheelchair.

After Robyn’s death, Brian continued his involvement with the ACC and his local country music groups making several trips up and down the east coast and back to his birthplace in the UK visiting his extended family.. His last National Muster was at Rockhampton in 2021.

In late October, Brian was diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukaemia, he endured a period of hospitalisation with aggressive treatment which allowed him to return home but he deteriorated rapidly and passed away on December 6th.

The ACC thanks Brian for his support over the years and sends condolences to his family.
