Thank goodness we do our job for the love of it and not the money anymore as times are so tough for anyone involved in the industry. Having assisted people with their travel and tours for over 30years,this is the toughest I have seen it for all involved in tourism. Road closures,national parks closed,ranges washed away,suburbs flooding,etc etc. A long road to recovery,but in saying that ,the community is very resiliant and 80% is back up and running.
Here at Kuranda,the range has reopened with short delays along the way due to sections only being one lane but what a sensational job has been done by local councils,transport department and volunteers to get us to where we are.A very pleasant drive indeed. Also no train till February but you can still take skyrail up or down and with the local TransNorth bus doing a few trips daily between Cairns and Kuranda , for a cheaper combo. Just have to book them separately.As far as I know ,the bus only accepts cash on boarding and all shops and stall holders in Kuranda love cash, so be prepared. It is what it is so we will just keep on keeping on and as they say,"if we were any tougher,we would rust." See you in Kuranda. Sometimes things appear a lot worse than they really are. We at the Buzz tour bookings had to shut our shop doors after a dismal September school holiday episode. Since our lease had expired and our rent was being put back to normal pre-covid rates, we had no other option but to shut our shop doors and to work from home. Well, the support has been great, the referrals and repeat business are certainly assisting us in these lean times. There is plenty of vacant real-estate available in the Cairns region, so no hurry. We just have to wait and see what Anastasia is going to do. To all our supporters over the years, a great thank you. With the way things are going it looks like we have almost reached the end of the road. Just no one around. For September so far ,we are 95% down on 2 years ago, and 45% down on last year because of the lack of southerners reaching our destination. The owners of our shop have done it tough too, giving us a substantial rent reduction in order to keep our doors open but they have demanded to go back to 75% of the rent up to 100% starting the 1st of January. At the moment we couldn't even cover the rent and outgoings with the takings and since there is no job keeper to put food on the table it will be close the doors and only operate from home. We will no doubt re-appear some time in the not too distant future as there is heaps of real-estate available in both Kuranda and Cairns. So from mid October as soon as the school holidays finish it will be "aurevoir" from us but remember you can still get our fantastic deals just by phoning us on 0400744079 or email us at [email protected]

Looks like no one can plan ahead whilst this dreaded pandemic is around. With border closures and travel restrictions, a lot of planning has gone out of the window. Guess we are starting to get used to it. It is just disheartening when the light appearing at the end of the tunnel only manifest itself as being an oncoming train. For an industry that relies on 70% + overseas visitors and being informed that the international borders not opening up until October 2022 guess puts a lot of us on the backfoot. Still more in the industry will fall by the wayside and recovery will be slow as we will have to re-employ and retrain people as most of the staff have left the industry altogether and have relocated to other parts of the country. I find it amazing that 85000 people can attend a football game, an aeroplane can be filled to the brim with passengers virtually sitting on each others laps yet a vessel going to the reef can be half empty due to different covid restriction rules. Why???
Anyway, enough of my whinge and whine . We at the Buzz tour bookings are still very much alive and kicking. Since it is far better to get 5% of something instead of 25% of nothing, we offer the best deals on any trips you could consider. 9 times out of 10 we will beat any online offers or direct to the company bookings and their offers.
