Lucky to have these shady Botanical gardens in Castlemaine, Kyneton and Malmsbury. Not only do they bring respite when it’s hot, there are numerous places to picnic in private. These gardens are opposite our newest house and we have two houses in Kyneton - Botanica and River House that are very near to the Botanical gardens there. It becomes a logical extension of the houses in summer and they are great places to unwind in….

We had a few extra men than expected getting ready at Harpsichord House. A little extra shenanigans today due to the rain, meaning more housekeeping but they were very polite.

Beyond Daylesford, central Victoria has plenty more for food-lovers, from a destination for charcoal chicken and natural wine to an all-day wine bar that feels straight from Rome.

Missed this but heard Dr Lynne Kelly talking about her latest book, The Knowledge Gene on the radio and her book looks fascinating. Congratulations to all at Mountain Festival for a magnificent event this weekend.

Lynne Kelly (The Knowledge Gene) talks to Radio National’s Natasha Mitchell about uncovering the source of human creativity; a gene that mutated 500,000 years ago and transformed humanity into musical, artistic and storytelling beings. With special guests Jane Rusden and Hilary Blackshaw the panel will discuss art and the cognitive strengths of neurodivergent people.

Dr Lynne Kelly AM is an educator and an Adjunct Research Fellow in the School of Humanities and Social Sciences at La Trobe University, and an Honorary Fellow in the School of Physics at the University of Melbourne. Over the past decade, she has focused on Indigenous knowledge systems and the use of story, song, place and art as mnemonic devices and her work is used widely in schools and universities.

Lynne Kelly is the author of 20 books on science including the bestselling The Memory Code, Memory Craft and Songlines: the Power and Promise. Her new book, The Knowledge Gene, explains why evolution ensured that the uniquely human skills of music, art and story are innate in all of us, despite introducing a devastating genetic disorder. It also explains why evolution ensured that all human populations involve neurodiverse members.

Made by one of our favourite former team member this tea towel is available at this weekends and we will try and pick up a few extras for our guests. Kyneton has a nickname - “Kindtown” and it is really great to witness the way our community pulls together to create events that enrich life for young and old. It’s on Saturday if you feel like seeing a traditional show that celebrates local producers, breeders, artists, cooks and makers.
