🚧Lions Road to be closed temporarily🚧

Lions Road between Standfields Bridge and the border crossing will be closed to through traffic from Monday 17 February to mid-June while Council replaces six culverts damaged in the February 2022 floods.

However, it’s likely the road closure will be extended to the end of the year so five major landslips can also be repaired. A decision on if, and when, the road closure will be extended will be made within the next month.

Meanwhile, Council will attempt to re-open Lions Road for holiday makers and travellers for two weeks over the NSW Easter school holidays from Friday, 11 April to Sunday, 27 April. The temporary re-opening will be dependent on weather conditions and the progress of the work.

Mayor Danielle Mulholland said the closure while inconvenient would result in a safer, more flood resilient road for all motorists.

“Unfortunately, the section of Lions Road between Standfields Bridge and the border crossing where both lots of work is to be done is narrow and winding and it simply would not be safe to keep it open while the works are carried out,” Cr Mulholland said.

“There will be large earth moving equipment in place and lots of heavy vehicles travelling the road, and there are very few places on the road you can construct by-passes.

“I understand this is not ideal and it will be inconvenient for both locals and travellers alike. However, it will allow Council to safely deliver a better, safer road that is more secure during intense rain periods.”

The Lions Road closure between Standfields Bridge and the border crossing will not affect Gradys Creek Road which will remain open. However, motorists are urged to use caution as there will be increased heavy vehicle traffic using the road during the hours of 6.30am and 5pm while the work is undertaken.

Council will notify residents living on Gradys Creek and Lions roads by mail of the upcoming changes to traffic conditions on Lions Road.

Just an update re our new (temp) pop-up shop at 3/131 Summerland Way, (3 down from the cnr of Stratheden st). Slowly but surely we are getting there with a few more brochures, maps etc. Our main furniture is yet to arrive but we are open for all enquiries from visitors and locals on Tues & Thurs 10am-2pm & Sat 10am-1pm, so please do call in and say hi, or ask us a question. The more the merrier, especially when it comes to statistics to prove to the Hierarchies that we are needed. We have re-established our Community Library for reading books and currently have a good selection. FREE books for the taking, swapping etc or we will kindly accept donations to keep the library operating. "It won't happen overnight, But it will happen" is our motto at present, so keep in touch, pop in, as we don't want to loose our presence in our lovely town, ".Gateway to the Rainforest".
We are also looking for extra volunteers to join our team and help learn the ropes so we can be open on more days, so if you are interested, pop in and have a chat, or contact Joe Allen at Kyogle Council, 66321611 and have a talk to him. Cheers from the VIC Vollies.

Great News;
As of Tues 19th July, the Kyogle & Villages Info Centre will temporarily (for at least the next few months) be located in a pop-up shop in the main street of Kyogle. Located at 3/131 Summerland Way. 2nd shop along from Clay Corner. We will be open on Tues & Thursday 10am-2pm & Sat 10am-1pm for all your tourist enquiries. Services will be limited at first and hopefully expanding as time goes by. Renovations for the Info Centre are ongoing at our main location at the bottom end of town and may still take a few months. So at present, a small amount is better than none. so please do drop by when we are open, say Hi, as every face that comes through the door, is encouraging to us, that we can still provide a face to face service to those who require it. Parking may not be as available as usual, but do park near the swimming pool, post office end of the main street, and walk the short distance for the usual pleasant, face to face experience about local info.
Cheers from your dedicated, local volunteers.
