On our nocturnal tour last night we met Mr.Western Banjo and he seemed just as happy about the rain as us. We saw 4 Critically Endangered Western Ringtail Possums, a Quenda and heard the screeches of 2 Brushtails. A lovely night among friends!

This young Magpie was nearly booted from his clan 6 months ago. They pecked his head until the feathers were gone and it was bleeding. But this Maggie we named Moo moo is back with its mates. It is always a bit on the outside, but trusts us and knows we are allies. So glad Moo Moo has his head feathers grown back. Love our resident Magpie Troop. They love our bird baths and eat heaps of the insects around. Win win.

The southwest is at its driest as we go through a long Bunuru season. However some of the hardy species flower at the most difficult time… and they are truly incredible plants to marvel at - pictured is a firewood banksia - Banksia menziesii. Get out there and have a look around to see who’s thriving at the toughest time of the year.

Whatever you get up to this weekend… be safe… look after each other, look after the places you visit… tread lightly always with respect and aim to leave places better than you found them… however that looks for you. Also… just take care of yourself too. Stop admire the sunset or the Banksia’s in flower and just let nature soothe your soul. Wishing everyone a lovely long weekend. From Jamie and Base and and

Something that always points me in the right direction is looking for the beauty in nature. This wild wombat we nicknamed Chubbles brought me joy as I admired this incredible creature. Here is a little album of shots from a wee meander in Tassie: https://jvjphotogallery.com/finding-the-wild-in-tassie ( link in bio👆).

As the burnt leaves and ash fall above us our thoughts go to the people who’ve lost their precious properties, to those working hard to control the blaze…. But my mind and thoughts also go to the wildlife that couldn’t get away, to the wildlife that lost their homes, to the bush that will take years to regenerate and the fact that with a landscape scarred by clear felled mining we can’t afford to lose more native habitat and vegetation. It’s heavy and sad and the reality of the world we live in. This fire was an accident started by charging devices in a car ( as far as I am aware). It’s not their fault, but it’s a human cause of fire on the landscape. Heart and thoughts are going out to all those affected by the Waroona fire.
