Nestled a mere 25km east of Beachcomber in Lakes Entrance, Costicks Weir stands as a tranquil reminder of nature's resilience and man's determination. Head out East from Lakes Entrance and follow the signs for the Historic Trestle Bridge. While you'll come across the renowned Stony Creek Trestle Bridge about 3km down the road, extend your journey for another 2km to discover the serene beauty of Costicks Weir.

Built in response to the devastating 1939 bushfires, this modest structure embodies the resourcefulness of past generations. Using local materials, it was meticulously constructed to ensure a steadfast water supply for firefighting. The project was supervised by John Hilbert Costick, a renowned forester whose contributions to the region have been immortalized by this beautiful spot.

Today, as you bask in the Weir's serene ambiance, you'll encounter the vibrant dance of dragonflies, the delicate flutter of butterflies, and if you're lucky, the majestic presence of Gippsland Water Dragons.

As you make your way to Costicks Weir, we recommend taking some time to marvel at the architectural beauty of the Stony Creek Trestle Bridge. And while there are tales of the Women’s Land Army’s involvement in the Weir's construction, it's essential to note that definitive records are scarce. What we do know for sure is the beauty and significance of this spot.

How cute is this little guy we spotted whilst strolling the newly named "Hummocks Walk" previously The Entrance Walk.

The Echidna was just one of the native Australian animals we encountered on the walk. We also saw the resident Burranan Dolphins heading out the Entrance, Australian Fur Seals, Blue-Tongue lizards, Kookaburras, and to many other native birds to mention.
