Up on the podium on Friday night in a tightly contested and important category if we want to get tourism on track to be a net positive. Proud of the team ๐๐๐พ thanks to the amazing TARKINE trails guides, support staff and all the local Tasmanian partners that make showcasing takayna a privilege ๐ฟ
Congratulations to the 2023 Ecotourism Award bronze medalist, Tarkine Trails!
Wish us luck as we compete at the Tasmanian Tourism Awards tonight!
The awards are the premier awards program in the Tasmanian tourism industry, and encourage and recognise innovation, excellence, quality and sustainability in tourism.
Tarkine Trails is entered in the Ecotourism category and we're hoping to one-up on last year's Silver award.
The preservation, conservation and presentation of takayna / Tarkine is of principal importance to Tarkine Trails, and we consider it a real privilege and honour to operate in the northwest Tasmanian wilderness.
Don't forget to look up!
Encompassing 447,000 hectares including stands of Huon Pine (one of the oldest living organisms, found nowhere else), vast giant eucalypt and myrtle forests, takayna is home to over 50 threatened species.
Until the early 2000s these forests were inaccessible for walkers. It is our privilege to showcase the region to our guests, and our responsibility to educate them on preserving it for the future.
Choose your own adventure and explore the beautiful range of nature of the Tarkine region. From lush rainforest to incredible coastal scenes.

Itโs hard to comprehend the true size of takayna/The Tarkine.
We explore only a small portion of it, with the rainforest encompassing around half of this vast remote country along with sea misted dunes, large plains of high biodiversity button grass and mountains covered in forests.
Keen to explore it with us ๐๐ฟ
Happy to be heading to the Tasmanian Tourism Awards to again have a crack at one. Congratulations to all the finalists๐ฟ
Congratulations Tarkine Trails!
So many people in Australia don't know about this remote corner of their backyard. Sharing it with them and teaching people about its history is what drives us.
Thanks for sharing Kevin ๐
Remember, less is more when it comes to packing for your Tarkine adventure.
As our Tarkine base Tiger Ridge operates completely off the grid, it gives a unique opportunity to immerse yourself in an ancient rainforest.
Being off the grid means we need to watch how we consume the limited power we do have. When it comes to packing, leave those power-hungry devices behind.

Coming with us into the Tarkine soon?
The right hiking shoes are your ultimate companions. Navigating the Tarkine's diverse terrain demands suitable footwear. Your safety and comfort hinge on this choice, from negotiating rugged paths to exploring ancient forests.
But remember, break in your shoes before you get here. This will help to avoid discomfort and blisters.
๐ฟ Embracing responsible travel is at our core, Tarkine Trails stands committed to sustainable and responsible tourism.
Guided by ecotourism principles from leaving no trace to empowering local communities, every step we take reflects our dedication. We're not just exploring, but also preserving cultural heritage and nature's beauty.

We are working on offsetting ALL carbon emissions. As over 98% of our guests come from interstate, we factor in offsetting the carbon emissions generated by our guests travelling to us via air and sea.
Our Tiger Ridge Eco Camp operates completely off-grid, collecting and storing solar power in a battery bank. It is also self-sufficient in water collection.
Our goal is to have a lifelong impact on our guests' conservation of natural resources.
Don't miss another sunset over the Tarkine coast.

Do you know why we use the names takayna and Tarkine? Takayna (pronounced tah-kye-nah) is the name of the traditional owners of the land and the people from the Sandy Cape-Pieman River area. We use the name takayna to pay our respects and acknowledgment of the traditional owners of the land we work, sleep and trek on.
