With only three days to the AWBF it was all hands on deck this morning to give My Lady (ML) Egeria a good spruce up. She was brought alongside so the starboard side could be given a good clean up and a new bollard installed. Egeria is the flagship for the festival and everyone is welcome onboard where Devonshire Teas will be served.

Last week, the crew of the Egeria had the pleasure of sharing their passion for the vessel with their grandchildren for the second year running. This year, they were thrilled to extend an invitation to Club staff, encouraging them to bring their children along for a memorable cruise into town and back. Approximately 45 adults and kids joined in on the fun, enjoying a BBQ with sausages generously supplied by Shannon and Jenna from Murdunna Roadhouse. The highlight of the day was a close-up view of the Disney Cruise Ship, which was in town for the day.

A big thank you to all who gave up their morning to crew and skipper the Egeria, creating another treasured memory for the kids.

Last Saturday the Egeria was chartered by the family and supporters of Michael “Murph” Renford son of the famous Australian open water and long distance swimmer Des Renford. Des was the first person to swim from the New Norfolk Bridge to the Tasman Bridge which he did in January 1975. 63 year old Murph repeated the swim 50 years to the day. It was wonderful that we were chosen to be part of the event.

We are extremely pleased to display a number of items of equipment that were purchased from the proceeds of a $4000 Community Grant from TasPorts. When applying for the grant the MYCT requested funding for emergency flares, a Solas life buoy light, fender covers, a 600g EPIRB, a flag roll and a coil of 20mm rope to replace mooring lines. Also funded was the servicing of eight inflatable PFD’s and the servicing of the 30 person inflatable life raft.

The crew members displaying this equipment are wearing Stormy Seas life jackets that were purchased from a previous TasPorts Community Grant.

MYCT and in particular the crew of Egeria greatly appreciate the support of TasPorts in ensuring that the vessel remains fully operational and available to the community.

Last Friday ML Egeria hosted former officers of the Hobart Port Division Royal Australian Naval Reserve that was based at the former HMAS Huon. Many will remember the vessels that were attached to Huon namely HMAS Bass (1967-1982) and HMAS Ardent (1982-1992). Egeria was herself attached to Huon as HMAS Tasma back in 1941-1944. The good old days!
