How we find water.
A seismic source is used to generate a powerful sound wave which moves down from the shot point into the earth, as this sound wave passes through the layers of strata it causes the rock matrix to be displaced. As the rock matrix is displaced, the incompressible fluids which are associated with porous and permeable media will move relative to the rock matrix. This tiny movement will cause any free ionic charges to move relative to their partners which are bound to the pore surface, this resultant charge separation will disturb the electromagnetic field.
