This mornings trip to the weir saw three Platypus, this one showed style and grace.
Down to the weir on the 21st, 3 Platypus. This pair were down to business.
Light rain and a cool breeze, meant this little piece of footage could warm my heart. There has been quite a bit of pre-marital hanky panky going on since early April. This is my first footage so far, is it evidence of an unusually early start to the mating season?
I am often astounded and amazed at the colours nature provides for me. 17th May.
Lucky last, number three. All three are from a three and a half minute video, it was considered tool arge to post as one by the Facebook algorythms.
This is number two in the sequence, I can't load it all at once. Used an iphone for the videos.
A trip to showground bridge at 2:00PM this afternoon with cousins from Sydney, proved to be awesome. The four videos to come were taken with my iphone. These three are cuttings about a minute each.
A short compilation video from the 12th March.
"Little Pied Cormorant" in action.
A short compilation video from 1st April.
A short compilation of this mornings sighting, don't recognise this one, yet.
A fabulous morning experimenting with the video capabilities of the R7, Canon 70-200, f2.8 lens. to say I am pleased is an understatement. from the Concept boardwalk.
Going through some older video footage, I came across this one. I wasn't successful with a lot of my videos back when, but every now and then i snagged one. Filmed on the 13th September 2020, at the Showground bridge, Maleny. This is "Patch", identified by the large light coloured spot(lack of pigmentation), in the middle of the bill. Look closely and you can see the close resemblance to a ringtail Possum.
A short video taken out at Beersheba yesterday morning, what a way to start 2023.
This the second of the Platypus out at Beersheba this morning, making an exit stage right, Sayonara 2022.
This was the final Platypus farewell from Concept, as the tail disappears under the water, we say farewell to 2022. Can't wait to see what 2023 brings.
With the end of 2022 nigh upon us, it is only fitting that, on the last day of the year, I was rewarded for an early start by having three Platypus grace me with their presence. The first was at Concept and the other two were out at Beersheba. I took note of my note, and remembered my tripod. I was able to get some quite good footage of all three. This first video is a compilation of the first Platypus at Beersheba.
Wishing everyone a healthy and prosperous New Year.
Catch up in 2023.
A compilation of two Platypus doing what they do best, along the Obi boardwalk. Note to self, remember the tripod.
One of the joys of spending my mornings photographing or filming the incredibly diverse range of fauna in and around the Obi, is to be able to witness events, such as these two Rakali (Australian White-tailed Water Rat), collecting leaves for their nest. They can grow to about 800mm in length, including tail, and their diet is very similar to that of the Platypus. Seeing both in the same waterway indicates a healthy ecosystem.
Have been waiting for the right time to come along and this morning it did. This Platypus decided to jump on the log and groom twice in relatively quick succession. The first time I got half a dozen still, the second time I chanced a hand held video. I'm pretty happy with the result.
