Ride ADV.com.au

Ride ADV.com.au RideAdv run 2,3, and 7 day long motorcycle trail riding events throughout the year in the eastern sta Our Sweep riders and support vehicles are your backstop.

Ride-ADV is a professionally run and supported Navigation ride series born out of the need for Dual Sport and ADV riders to have locally organised two, three and longer multi day rides, where all the planning and organisation has been done for the rider. Some of the best adventure trail riding on the East Coast of Australia has now been ridden, plotted and mapped by our Trail Boss, Greg Yager and

his Ride-ADV team; stitching sections of broken trail into exciting and exhilarating rides for our customers. Dual Sport or “ADV” bikes come in all sizes from an adventure prepared 250cc trailbikes to a big twin 1200cc motorcycle with off road tyres and riders come with all levels of experience as well. With some ADV riders coming from a dirt and trail background while others come from a road or track riding background, no matter what size of bike you prefer to ride and what level of experience you have, our ride series is designed to support you in your quest to get the most adventure out of your setup. Our fully supported rides allow you to experience and access some of Australia’s most exciting and remote trails and unpaved roads in a safer environment. Each ride is meticulously planned and pre run and then plotted to a GPS route for the customer to navigate with friends. During the ride, lead riders’ head out and check the trail and mark obvious dangers. A sweep crew follows the field and assists any riders having difficulty. The rides are also supported with 4X4 vehicles with trailers to pick up any bikes that cannot finish the ride. You know that you are riding with friends and have a professional team with you on the trail. This can often make the difference of enjoying and completing a route or giving up when it all goes pear shaped. Great Value and Support

Trail Boss Greg Yager and the Ride-ADV team often spend days pre running each ride. For every kilometer you ride on a route, the team have ridden ten or more to get the perfect ride sorted for you. On each Ride-ADV ride you have at least two ‘Zero’ or Lead riders and four ‘Sweep’ riders (two for each route). On most rides we also have at least two support vehicles with trailers to assist the sweeps and rescue bikes (and riders) that for whatever reason cannot finish the days route. On any normal ride with mates, when a bike or rider is down, the ride is often over for the group. The Ride-ADV rides are planned and designed to keep you going even if one or more riders drop out. The routes are often broken up into sections and at the end of each section you should find the support vehicles waiting for you, so even if you are ahead of the sweeps, you can get any trail support you need. If you need our support vehicles to carry fuel, this can also be arranged too. Our Sweep and support vehicles are there to get every bike and rider back on the trail or at least recovered to a location where you can get yourself home. Our rides are very sensibly and reasonably priced to give you the best experience with the minimum worry. The rides are fairly priced, excluding fuel, meals and accommodation. Maps and routes are loaded prior to the ride commencing, usually the night before at the riders briefing. With ongoing support from Yamaha Australia, Adventure Moto, Camel ADV Products, Pirelli, Polisport, Link International, Funnel Web Filters, Rival Ink, Teknik Motorsport and Gall Bros Medical the Ride-ADV series has now been running since 2013 and rides are planned throughout 2023, 2024 and into the future.

The First RideADV Yamaha Introduction to Adventure Riding for 2025 – What a Weekend!

Our first Introduction to Adventure Riding event for 2025 is done and dusted, and what an incredible weekend it was! Based out of the RideADV HQ at Mangrove Mountain, we had a lot of the riders camping on-site, making the most of the facilities despite the wet lead-up during the week.

Each day, we rode straight from base camp, giving riders the perfect mix of training, adventure, and real-world experience. Saturday night’s free BBQ and info session went late into the evening, with tyre changes, shared stories, favorite ride discussions, goal setting, and all the dream adventures that make ADV riding so special.

By Saturday afternoon and into Sunday, the improvements were undeniable. Riders were making huge strides, gaining confidence, and putting everything they learned into practice. Seeing their excitement—buzzing about how much better they were riding in such a short time—was just as rewarding for our crew as it was for them.

If you missed out, don’t worry—there’s more to come! Some of our upcoming rides have already filled up, but don’t be afraid to drop us an email at [email protected] to go on the waiting list or check if a spot opens up. RideADV has always been about GPS navigation—specifically Garmin units. While we have no affiliation with Garmin, we’ve relied on their products for years and been happy with their performance.
However, in the last five years, we’ve seen a shift. First, there was a push toward Android-style phone navigation, which has proven to be seriously flawed. Then came the move to rugged, waterproof tablets like the Samsung ActiveTab series. While these tablets are waterproof, they have a major flaw—charging becomes unreliable in wet and rainy conditions, making them less than ideal for serious adventure riding.

Two years ago, we purchased a DMD-T665 unit, which we’ve been testing without any major issues. Then, in the past 12 months, we moved to the DMD-T865X navigation tablet, which has seriously impressed us. Now, we’ve decided to test the Carpe Iter powered tablet mount and heavy-duty bracket on our TFT-equipped Tenere 700s and World Raids to see how it performs in real-world conditions.

Both the DMD 865 tablet and the Carpe Iter mount and accessories were purchased through Moto Explorer, and we’ll be putting them through their paces. We’ll report back in six months—stay tuned!

In this five minutes of workshop time, TB explains “The Importance of Clean Air Filters” Protect Your Engine from Damage

At RideADV, we’ve seen firsthand the devastating effects dirty air can have on an engine with customers attending our events. However, in over 12 years of operation, we’ve never had a failure ourselves—a testament to the importance of proper air filtration and maintenance. Just take that into account we have never had a problem or had to actually adjust a valve. What’s that mean? It means we’ve never had the valve clearances on one of our Tenere 700s outside the recommended specification.

In our latest video, we explain why clean air filters are essential:
• The Damage from Dirty Air: Dust and debris entering the engine quickly wear the valve seat and valve face, creating a poor seal. Over time, this results in a loss of valve clearance, which reduces performance and accelerates wear.
• The Domino Effect of Damage: When valve clearance disappears, the valve remains slightly open during operation, leading to overheating and poor combustion. This puts additional stress on the valve seat and face, ultimately causing severe wear.
• Camshaft and Follower Failure: Loss of valve clearance can escalate further. Zero clearance and excessive pressure can cause premature wear or failure of the camshaft and cam followers, resulting in significant engine damage.
Our solution? Regular use of high-quality air filters, like FunnelWeb. Designed for superior dust protection, they ensure clean air intake even in the harshest riding conditions.
Quality, air filter oils, not ones that are easy to clean ones, you want an oil that is hard to clean because you don’t want them draining out of the filter.

The takeaway is clear: maintaining clean air filters is the simplest way to protect your engine. By preventing dirt from entering the system, you can avoid the chain reaction of damage that leads to costly repairs and downtime.
It also pays to start with quality components and from our experience the Yamaha CP2 engine is definitely quality 😉

Canada to California!
Back in July and August, we shipped our Yamaha Tenere 700 and Tenere World Raid bikes from Australia to Canada for a 9,000-kilometer journey down the Continental Divide and into California. Covering Idaho, Montana, Wyoming, Colorado, Utah, Nevada, and California, this ride was about putting our bikes to the ultimate test.

Why did we go to the extra effort and cost of shipping our bikes instead of renting or buying locally? Simple: our Teneres are part of the RideADV fleet, with over 500,000 accumulated kilometers logged since 2019. They’re proven, reliable, and equipped with the best accessories – and we wanted to show exactly what they can do in real-world conditions.

In this video, we focus on:
• What we used: The bikes and gear that made this 9,000-kilometer trip possible.
• Why we used it: The upgrades and accessories we trust to deliver consistent performance.
• The importance of our setup: Why shipping our own bikes was the right one.
Check out the video to see how these bikes, accessories, and gear performed flawlessly over 9,000 kilometers of demanding terrain.

Yesterday was all about mixing it up and making strides! Monique kicked off her day with a private morning lesson led by Mick, and it was nothing short of amazing. To ensure everything was just right, TB prepped one of our trusty WR250Rs for her. He even decided to tag along for the ride, adding to the fun and camaraderie.

Monique, who grew up riding around her family farm and now enjoys a Triumph on the road, is gearing up for our Women’s Ride in February. She wanted to sharpen her off-road skills and brush up on her technique ahead of the big event.

It’s worth noting that before this lesson, Monique had never stood up while riding a motorbike. But over the course the three hours, she not only learned heaps—including proper standing techniques—but also got to put her new skills into practice on the trail.

The cherry on top? At the end of the lesson, Monique confidently rode TB’s Ténéré 700 World Raid back to RideADV HQ, a huge milestone and a testament to her progress.

By the end of the ride, Monique was absolutely stoked, brimming with confidence, and ready to take on her next adventure. It was a feel-good morning all around for everyone involved.

🎥 Check out the video highlights and see the RideADV difference in action! Whether you’re a seasoned rider or just looking to level up, we’ve got you covered.

Don’t wait—sign up for the Women’s Ride in February. Let’s hit the trails together!

Testing DMD Navigation: Our Honest Review
After over 18 months of real-world testing, here are our thoughts on the DMD (Drive Mode Dashboard) navigation program.
To be fully transparent, we’ve been running it back-to-back with Gaia, and for backup, we’ve always had a Garmin Zumo XT or XT2 on our bikes. Additionally, we’ve paid for every piece of equipment and software we’ve used during this testing process.

For the record, we still create all of our tracks in Basecamp—love it or hate it, it’s what we use. We will also continue using our Garmin XT's, XT2's, Zumo 396 and various Montana models. They are rugged and bullet proof for customers and crew.

Now, let’s talk DMD: it’s packed with features and outshines Gaia in many ways, especially for tablet-style navigation. It has quickly become our top choice for this setup.
•Initially, we tested DMD and Gaia on a Samsung Active Tab 3 in various mounts. While the tablet worked well, the major downside was that it couldn’t charge in wet conditions (rain or heavy fog).
•We then switched to the DMDT655 (5.7-inch screen). While it performed great, our older eyes struggled with the smaller display. That device is now fitted on Billy’s bike. It has preformed faultlessly with no problems.
•Our latest upgrade is the DMDT865X (8-inch screen), and it’s a game-changer! It offers various charging options, sturdy mounts, and plenty of accessories, like handlebar controllers and mounts. They also offer tyre pressure monitors and other add-ons, but honestly, we’re not about too many gizmos—just solid, reliable navigation for us.
Just a bit of side info on the The DMD-T865, it is a rugged Android tablet specifically designed for motorcycle navigation.

Key Features:
- Display: 8-inch IPS panel with a resolution of 1280 x 800 pixels, offering over 1000 nits brightness for optimal outdoor visibility.
- Performance: Powered by an octa-core processor, ensuring smooth operation of navigation apps and multitasking.
- Storage: Comes with 128GB of internal storage, expandable via a microSD card slot, providing ample space for maps and media.
- Connectivity: Supports dual Nano-SIM cards for 4G/LTE connectivity, 5GHz Wi-Fi, and Bluetooth, ensuring reliable communication and internet access on the go.
- GPS Capabilities: Equipped with high-precision GPS, supporting GNSS, GLONASS, GALILEO, and A-GPS, with an option to connect an external GPS antenna for enhanced accuracy.
- Durability: IP67-rated for dust and water resistance, making it suitable for various riding conditions.
- Battery and Power: Features an 8000mAh battery and includes a motorcycle charging dock with a 12V-24V internal circuit, eliminating the need for external power converters.
- Operating System: Runs on Android 14, providing access to the Google Play Store and compatibility with a wide range of applications.

A big shoutout to MotoExplorer in NSW! They’ve recently opened their shop to the public, but we’ve been getting our gear through them for quite some time. Their knowledge and support have been invaluable. They carry a ton of gear, and most importantly it’s in stock! If you’re considering trying DMD for your bike, this is the place to check out. https://www.facebook.com/motoexplorerau
