This is back when we were still living up in Exmouth, and running Ningaloo Safari Tours - any guesses on who Elle is hugging? πŸ˜† (HINT - he is now one of our wonderful tour guides and Neil's youngest son!)

The gorgeous area of Bunbury is home to the largest street and public art collection in regional Australia, with urban art scattered throughout the town

One of these is the striking Wardandi Boodja at Koombana Bay. Created by artists Nicole and Alex Mickle, the artwork seeks to pay respect and celebrate to the original inhabitants of the region, the Noongar nation. The face isn't of one particular person - instead, photographs dating from the 1870s to the early 1900s were studied, and images and faces of Noongar people were analysed to create a composite of the many Noongar families of the region.

Keen to check out Bunbury? Join us on a tour! πŸ™Œ

If he's not on tour or watching the footy, Neil's probably tending to his horses 🐎
Neil has loved horses since childhood, when his mum Bernice taught him to ride on this very property.

It evolved naturally that Neil started bringing tour guests to meet the horses ~ firstly with fellow 'horse people', then we realised that everyone loves the farm, the family stories, and the horses became a non-negotiable part of the itinerary.

We hope you love the horses too, and any time you return to Margaret River, we'd love to welcome you back to feed them another carrot or two!

Family holiday to Margaret River? The humpback whales make it an annual visit!

Spending summer in the cool Southern Ocean and winter up north on the warm Kimberley coast, we are thrilled to see them breaching, tail slapping and spouting as the migrate past Margaret River in winter and spring.

Because our tour visits Augusta and Cape Leeuwin through to Margaret River Mouth and Geographe Bay, we're looking out for whales roughly 5 months of the year. Join us on tour and we'll do our best to find them for you! πŸ‹πŸ’™πŸ‹

We all have that work friend we can't help but be distracted by... at McLeod HQ its the black cockatoos.

Midway through bookwork we hear their signature squawk, grab the camera and lose about 30 minutes admiring them.

Bird lovers, we're always happy to interrupt a tour to point out cockies, wrens, eagles and parrots - so bring your binos! πŸ’›

Ever wonder why the surf around Margaret River is world-renowned? The β€˜Roaring Forties’, strong western winds found in the southern hemisphere, generate powerful open ocean swells that travel across the Indian Ocean and make a direct impact on Surfers Point and its Main Break reef.

If you're looking for something fantastic to do while in Perth, we recommend visiting the new(ish) WA Museum Boola Bardip which opened four years ago in Northbridge.

Modern, interactive and engaging, we're still making our way through the seven major sections. Our favourite exhibit is about the three types of black cockatoos native to Western Australia; Baudins black cockatoo (pictured, flying over the family farm), Carnaby's cockatoo and the Forest red tailed cockatoo. The exhibit allows you to identify their call, gumnuts after each type of bird has taken the seed and see the taxidermied birds themselves.

Let us know what you think! β€οΈπŸ¦…

Nearly 3 years ago a devastating fire started near Mammoth Cave, burning Boranup Forest and surrounding National Park for days.

Mammoth Cave is one of the successes ~ its structures, sculptures and tall trees were saved by firefighters working tirelessly.

Two and a bit years later and we love bringing guests here to show off the beautiful forest, cave and terrifying predators that stalk through the undergrowth... did anyone spot the Thylacoleo carnifex?! πŸ˜†

What makes for a really special wine tasting? 🍷
We think there's more to it than sniffing, swirling and sipping... it's the stories, the characters and beautiful land that make a wine taste extra special.

Here at McLeod Tours we've tasted a few wines in our time, strolled the vineyards with winemakers and talked at length over barrel tastings.

But there's nothing so wonderful as casting your eye over the rolling vines, meeting the people who get their hands dirty at vintage and actually talking about what you can taste, and what you love (or don't love - that's okay too) about a particular wine. This is the experience we aim to share with you.

And the wine dogs - we always try to introduce you to the wine dogs! 🐢🍷❀️🀣

Rivermouth and Surfers Point are great spots to watch surfers carve up the big waves. And in the coming months, we'll be looking beyond the break for telltale signs of the annual whale migration!

Around 35,000 humpback whales pass our shores each year. They head north to the warm Kimberley waters to calve and feed their young over winter, then return to the Southern Ocean in time for summer. August to November is great whale watching, peaking in October, but we've already spotted a few 'early birds' out there.

Have you seen whales this season? πŸ‹πŸ’™

Why are there so many types of honey in The Margaret River Region?
Different trees ~ karri, marri, jarrah to name a few ~ produce different kinds of flowers and nectar, which changes what the bee brings back to the hive, and the flavour of the honey.

Standing below the glorious tall trunks of Boranup Forest's karri trees, surrounded by peppermints and wildflowers, we think it's the perfect place to taste and appreciate some of the local honey flavours.

Have you had this experience, and what did you think? πŸ―πŸπŸ’›

This is the famous Busselton Jetty from above ~ taken by cousin Jackson McLeod Scenic Helicopters as he performed aerial surveillance of the Busselton Jetty Swim earlier this year.

We visit Busselton Jetty on day 1 of our tour, and you have the chance to either stroll the jetty which stretches 1.8km out into Geographe Bay. Alternatively, relax on the foreshore with an ice cream, coffee or craft beer.

Beautiful shots, Jacko!

The famous breaks in Yallingup, Gracetown and Margaret River have attracted surfers from across the globe.

One of our most well-known competitions, the Margaret River Pro, became part of the (World Surf League in 2014, attracting elite competitors such as Kelly Slater and John John Florence.

The best way to experience β€˜the Pro’, is of course, live in the flesh, with spectators able to watch all the action live and free at Surfers Point.

Driving from Boorloo (Perth) on Whadjuk Noongar Boodja to Wooditup (Margaret River) we pass through the Country of three different Noongar tribes.

Approaching Bunbury we’re entering Wadandi Boodja, which stretches from here to Margaret River, and inland to Nannup. This land makes up Wadandi (Saltwater) Peoples country.

We'll often stop in Bunbury at this important sculpture which represents the Wadandi (Saltwater) People of this region.

Join us on tour for a chance to admire this incredible piece, and explore other works by Nicole and Alex at Bunbury's Woodwork Gallery.

"One word - AMAZING! From the moment we met Rob we did not stop smiling. I have worked in the travel industry for most of my life, 52 years...but had never done a small group tour before. We had 11 people on board and every minute was absolutely great..

First day we travelled to Margaret River, several stops along the way and you NEVER felt rushed. Our accommodation in Margaret River was exceptional, welcoming drink, good restaurant and comfortable beds!!!

Day 2 we had Neil, the owner and the most knowledgeable person...so many fabulous stories..what a life he has had and we were privileged enough to share....there was so much laughter and a wonderful mix of passengers. I would ABSOLUTELY recommend this trip especially to over 60s as you are treated with the utmost respect and you NEVER feel rushed. Wineries, restaurants, food all fabulous...but my hat goes off to Neil and Rob for their wit, humour and respect....thank you boys"

Thank you Sharyn ~ we put a lot of love and care into making sure you have a great experience, so this review made Neil's and Rob's day!

How amazing is this shawl inside Mammoth Cave?! 😍🀯

There's plenty of mind-blowing cave formations at Mammoth, from stalactites, stalagmites and helictites to colourful shawls, columns and flowstones.

This one above has formed from water passing through layers of earth and the limestone cave roof, leaving the tiniest trickle of calcium carbonate which forms the shawl over thousands of years. The lines come from tannins collected in the leaves and other organic matter that the water has passed through.
