The plains and valleys are home to curious kangaroos and wallabies, dozing koalas and multitudes of small reptiles and mammals, while the cool rainforest canopy is filled with bird song.

Horse Hoof Fungus, a bracket polypore and club fungi species, naturally found in Queensland. With the right knowledge, it can be crafted into tinder, making it a valuable resource for traditional owners. This particular specimen, discovered on day four, is likely quite old given its impressive size. 🌿🍂

Winter hiking in Queensland is idyllic but don’t be caught out by the cold. In our packing guides we include recommendations for winter woolies but often find guests are underprepared as they are expecting warm coastal Queensland weather during the day and overnight.

Our recommendation is to come prepared and bring layers so that if you need to warm up or cool down you can.

Meet Kate, one of our friendly guides on the Scenic Rim Trail.

"To be honest, it was a happy accident that I got into guiding. My background is in design and marketing, and I’d been working in the fashion industry for many years. One day, my partner and I decided to take a break from our careers and go travelling.

We’d become a bit disenchanted with city existence and so we packed our life into an old Troopy and hit the road...We fell in love with the Kimberley...and it was there that we were offered the opportunity to guide. We both have a natural curiosity and have always loved the outdoors so something just clicked and we never looked back!"

1) Fairy Ink Cap (Coprinellus disseminatus), 4) False Turkey Tail (Stereum ostrea), 5) Coral Fungi (Clavarioid fungi).

Can any enthusiasts out there identify the other two?

Escape the Brisbane heat. Beneath the rainforest canopy of the #scenicrim, it can be up to 10 degrees cooler, making a difference when it's reaching 35°C in Brisbane most days! Our accommodation options are designed to make the most of this too, optimised for natural airflow. Accommodation on the Scenic Rim Trail

Take a glimpse behind closed doors to experience the luxurious accommodation awaiting you on our Four-Day Walk in 2024. Picture yourself completing a 15km trek for the day, and then heading off to a hot shower (with excellent water pressure), followed by your own cosy cabin with a sumptuous, king-sized Spicers mattress. And we haven't even got to the food yet.

Niamboyoo (Mt Cordeaux) stands on the northern side of Cunningham’s Gap and is one of the two mountains that stand like sentries, guarding the westernmost entrance into the Scenic Rim, just 1.5 hours from Brisbane.

Timber Getters at Sunset - Aerial Footage

Taking in the sunset on the last few days of winter over Timbergetters Eco Camp (Day 3).

POV: You arrive at Spicers Timber Getters Eco Camp on Day three of the four-day walk. Located on the site of a former logging campsite, this off-grid luxury camp pays subtle homage to its history and calmly celebrates its natural environment. Guests are immersed in the forest and will feel as much a part of the place as the local flora and fauna. The cabins feature vivid charred exterior wood panelling, providing a dramatic contrast to the surrounding dark green Xanthorrhoea trees. Each cabin has a Spicers king bed, a private balcony with a cavernous louvre window that opens up to the sounds and sights of the forest. Steaming hot showers and flushing toilets are found in two wash pavilions located near the cabins.
