In 2021 we started our Oz road adventures with Rocky and our camper-van. This is Rocky´s road trip full of adventure and humour. STORY OF ROCKY, OUR COCKATOO
In 2014 we took on Rocky because we lost a much-loved Cockatoo, Wally to a tumour and Rocky needed a new home. We had no idea how old he was or anything substantial about his background other than he lived in a cage during the day with some
chooks so he clucked like a chook! He likes human company especially men and sits with them demanding pats. He plays with his ball just like a dog and gets on with his life flying freely around us until its time for his meal.
2020 was a crazy year for most of the world and as such we decided to sell up and buy a caravan and a fourbie and travel around Australia. We are a husband and wife family with a mini fox terrier called Tommi and Rocky the cockie. We lived in Portarlington, Victoria, and found the van in NSW so we travelled there to pick it up, taking Rocky with us on our first road trip. Our philosophy was to see how Rocky travelled and if it were painful for him or upset by the travelling, we would have to re-home him. He travelled in a cage in the back of the Ford Ranger and there wasn’t a peep out of him unless he was hungry or thirsty. We stayed in Airbnb’s all the way on our first trip and Rocky made friends with all our hosts who wrote glowing reports on his character and cheekiness when we left. After we sold our house for more road adventures, we stayed in Caravan Parks and we were happy if our neighbours had a dog as it would keep Rocky home. If there was no dog around, it would mean Rocky would wander off and visit all the other campers much to their delight. Rocky particularly likes men, so if a fella at the camping ground was sitting in a chair having a quiet beverage outside his van, Rocky would fly to him and climb up the chair and sit on the arm and expect a pat! much to their surprise. Rocky loves to be around people and our only time out from Rocky would be to put him in a tree where he could sleep and it would also keep our visitors to a minimum, as many visitors would come to our van to meet Rocky. We did meet a lot of people wherever we went, usually the whole caravan park. Our Rocky is so unique and his sense of humour and the shenanigans he gets up to is something we like to share with our followers.
