NEWLY LISTED! Oak Dene Kyabram was built in 1908 for Dr and Mrs John Cam Wight as a family home and surgery. Classified by the National Trust and designed by Melbourne architect Gerard Wight, Oak Dene is constructed entirely of ripple iron, inside and out – Australia’s only known example of its type.

Today, Oak Dene is hosted by Gillian Banks, who resides in one wing of the house, and is on hand to make guests feel welcome. Gillian’s brother, London-based architect Alan Higgs, undertook a sensitive restoration of the property in 2017. Both hold fond memories of their time at the house since childhood.

Accommodation is fully self-contained and private. Sleeping up to five guests, there is a master with king bed, and twin bedroom with two king singles. A folding bed for a fifth guest can be set up in the sitting room if required. The main bathroom features a beautiful claw foot bath, heating, and complimentary amenities.

Unwind in the elegant sitting room, with plenty of quiet spots to relax with a good book and a glass of wine. Gather for meals in the spacious dining area, or out on your own private verandah overlooking the half acre of stunning heritage gardens. Under 2.5 hours from Melbourne, Oak Dene is a peaceful, serene escape. An iconic landmark, Premier Mill Hotel - Katanning was first established in 1891 as the ‘Premier Roller Flour Mill’, then wore many hats over the years as a manufacturing site, retail premises, much-loved tea rooms, and Katanning’s community centre. Following a restoration spanning several years, Premier Mill Hotel is now one of Australia’s most unique small boutique hotels.

Modern elements were architecturally designed to enhance, rather than detract, from the building’s heritage features. Silo Rooms are wrapped around the old grain silo. Boiler Rooms are located near a triple-storey glass atrium overlooking the 127 year old steam boiler that once powered the Mill; and the Packing Rooms feature exposed gantry-arms and pulley wheels.

A luxurious experience, each room has locally handcrafted, bespoke furniture, Bang & Olfusen personal sound, and Aesop amenities. Relax in the guest library or around the fireplace in the lounge, enjoy breakfast each morning at Dome Cafe onsite, and come evening, head underground for drinks The Cordial Bar, hosted in the Mill’s old machine room.
