Welcome to WAM’s Impact Report for 2024

WAM does tourism differently…
And we want everyone booking an experience with us to be safe in the knowledge you are supporting a small business that works really hard to have a big positive environmental and social impact.

WAM’s Impact Report 2024 is all about showing why we operate as a regenerative tourism business, the positive impact we are having on local nature, people, and projects.

Simply put we infuse purpose into everything we do, and are determined to leave this destination as better place for future generations.

Here is a little snapshot but please click the link in bio to view the full report. We’d love to know what you think!

This is your LAST CALL to book for our Great Alpine & Lakes Adventure next week, (bookings close this Friday at 3pm), and if you needed more convincing, here are some unbelievably incredible unexpected bonus experiences from the trip!

Yes we know our epic 5 day winter trip along The Great Alpine Road, has some stand out highlights including skiing and snowboarding Mt Hotham, or being on the Gippsland Lakes, but we have put our hearts into making this trip extra special so here are some of the unexpected bonus experiences from the trip that might just blow your thermal socks off.

1: You get to visit an island full of koalas. This takes place on day 4 and we take you on a short ferry ride to and island renowned for its koala population (sightings guaranteed!). Photo credit:

2. This trip supports the conservation of the Mountain Pygmy Possum. These little legends are Australia's only hibernating marsupial so they will be asleep beneath as we take to the ski slopes. They are critically endangered so we donate a portion of every booking to who are doing incredible work to support the Mountain Pygmy Possums including building tunnels of love!

3. You get to enjoy a fondue cooking class, in a teepee, at an eco village, delivered by a Frenchman! This is through our friends

4. Stargazing of magnificent proportions. Photo credit:

5. You get a free beanie. Australia's sustainable hat company are mates and fellow B-Corp, so we have teamed up to provide all guests booking The Great Alpine & Lakes Adventure, one of Will & Bear's legendary beanies.

6. Bathe in hot springs overlooking lakes and oceans. This one may be expected but its a jaw dropping experience to relax in a hot spring with stunning ocean views. Photo credit:

Calling all businesses based in Melbourne, Mornington Peninsula and beyond.

Looking for something different for your next team day out in 2024 or 2025 that isn't orientated around alcohol?

At Wild Adventures Melbourne (WAM), we love organising extraordinary and bespoke days out on the Mornington Peninsula for small and larger corporate groups which are focussed on health, wellbeing and connecting with nature for all abilities.

From activities like stand-up paddleboarding and snorkelling, to rainforest walks, to wild swims in secret natural rock pools, combined with tasting incredible local produce at viewpoint picnics, and relaxation at venues like the hot springs. Better still, our experiences are all designed to have a positive impact on the local environment and community, and groups can even contribute to this during the day.

Please DM us if you would like WAM's digital brochure of adventurous experiences for private groups.

And if you do wish to have a few drinks as part of your day, we can also include a visit to awesome sustainably conscious local wineries, breweries and distilleries after the nature based activities!

5 reasons why The Great Alpine Road is a must do winter road trip:

1) Breathtaking scenery - Snow capped mountains, beautiful valleys, lush forests, rolling vineyards, and the stunning waterways of the Gippsland Lakes.

2) Skiing & Snowboarding - perched on top of the mountain, Mt Hotham is unique in many ways; wide open spaces, exhilarating terrain and panoramic views, it's the perfect spot to ski and snowboard in Australia

3) Incredible diversity of experiences - it doesn't get more varied in terms of experiences and scenery. One day you could be skiing, snowboarding or snowshoeing in Mt Hotham and the next kayaking along the Gippsland Lakes, or bathing at the dream worthy Metung Hot Springs

4) Connecting the Australian Alps with the Gippsland Lakes - This 339-kilometre adventure along Australia's highest year-round accessible sealed road is iconic, and has very little traffic in winter so you will feel like you have it all to yourself at times.

5) Gippsland in winter is a really special time to go - amazing food, activities, wildlife, and people. Winter is a great time to visit whilst supporting communities in their low season.

Our 5 day Great Alpine & Lakes Adventure is going from the 4th to 8th September 2024 and there are just three spots remaining. Click link in bio to find out more.

Today is International Day For Biological Diversity.

The future of tourism relies on nature flourishing, so it would be shortsighted of Wild Adventures Melbourne (WAM) to operate in a way that delivers extraordinary experiences in Australia’s spectacular and iconic nature, yet did nothing to support and protect ecosystems and biodiversity.

As a tourism operator, we’re acutely aware that WAM needs to be part of the solution, rather than part of the problem. That has been in our DNA since the very beginning.

This is why we created the WAM 4 Project.
The WAM 4 Project is dedicated to supporting the long-term conservation and protection of nature, wildlife and culture on the Mornington Peninsula and surrounds so that it can thrive and be enjoyed for generations to come.

WAM strives to protect, restore and enhance biodiversity in multiple ways including supporting restoration of reefs and kelp forests, planting native trees and other plants, saving energy, cleaning up eliminating and reducing waste, ethical supply chains and more.

Looking to do something this Aussie winter that’s adventurous, relaxing and bloody incredible scenery throughout?

Below is a Google review left by one of guests who joined WAM’s Great Alpine & Lakes Adventure last year, click link in bio to find out more about the trip and to book.

“We just got back from the Great Alpine & Lakes Adventure and it was amazing! Nic has a real passion for hosting people and went above and beyond to make sure we had a good time. We spent 2 nights at a cosy cabin in Dinner Plain near Mt Hotham where we got to enjoy our first Australian skiing experience which greatly exceeded expectations. Plus an unforgettable fondue dinner at a hidden little lodge hosted by a lovely Frenchman. We then continued the drive south and spent 2 nights at a lakeside house overlooking the Gippsland Lakes where Nic took us kayaking on the lake before spending our final evening at the luxurious and picturesque Metung Hot Springs where we got to bathe in numerous naturally heated tubs and pools. The 4 night adventure was the perfect combination of adventure and relaxation, I highly recommend giving it a go when winter comes back around!”

A couple of times a year we host a fantastic group of ecotourism & hospitality students.

Today we provided a Stand Up Paddleboarding experience, beach clean-up, plus lunch at our friends (and fellow B-Corp) to share our purpose driven business practices.

It’s really important for us to support and hopefully inspire the next generation of tourism professionals who are vital in driving the industry forward in a progressive way to become a force for good and have a positive environmental and social impact.

Thanks to for joining a WAM adventure, excited to see your students kicking purpose driven tourism goals in the future!

A few years ago I was watching a film/documentary called '2040' which explores what the future could look like by the year 2040 if we simply embraced the best solutions already available to us to improve our planet and shifted them rapidly into the mainstream.

One of the points raised in the film that really struck a cord was that more girls completing education is crucial for fighting climate change.

It made me wonder if there was a program here in Australia that WAM could donate to which supported Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander girls and young women through education.

This led to connecting with the who run programs to improve health, education and employment outcomes for First Nations girls and young women across Australia.

Coincidentally it turned out that the executive director of the Stars Foundation had spoken at the premier of the 2040 film about the power of women completing education as part of the solution to climate change.

To cut a long story short, fast forward a few years and WAM is committed to supporting the Stars Foundation, and i'm proud to say in 2022-23 we funded one school year of education for a Stars Foundation female student based here in Victoria.

Bringing things full circle, last week I was fortunate enough to meet Damon Gameau the director of 2040, and was able to thank him for the inspiration through his film making.

WAM is committed to supporting the Stars Foundation for years to come as part of our WAM 4 Project and 2030 goals which you can learn more about on our website.

I'm extremely proud to announce that Wild Adventures Melbourne (WAM) has been chosen as a finalist in the 35th National Banksia Foundation Sustainability Awards, regarded as the most prestigious sustainability Awards in Australia and longest-running Sustainability Awards in the world.

WAM is a finalist in the Sustainable tourism award category which recognises outstanding businesses in the tourism industry that prioritise environmental conservation and have demonstrated a commitment to minimising their ecological footprint, promoting responsible travel and visitor education, supporting local communities, and preserving natural and cultural heritage.

As a micro-tourism owner-operator business, WAM doesn't enter many awards due to limited resources. So being recognised as a finalist in these national awards makes it even more special and gives us confidence our unique progressive approach to positive impact tourism has the potential to help transform the industry into a force for good.

Congratulations to all the finalists across all categories. See you on the 4th April.
