Now we have all three chicks hatched.
These little peregrine falcon chicks are located at 367 Collins Street Melbourne. There is live viewing 24/7 until they fledge. This happens every year and I’m so obsessed with watching them grow.
Enjoy your new obsession!!

Free science workshops, Tuesday- Saturday. 10-2. Westfield Knox
Ozobots
Still some spots for today’s workshops at LaManna in Essendon.
We are exploring with our ‘senses’ and using ‘sensors’ on mini robots to make obstacle courses and mazes.
Meet Monty, the mountain huntsman.
I’m up in Morwell, running a renewable energy workshop, and there are lots of amazing groups also running activities for children. One of the groups if focussed on reconnecting with nature and insects, and Monty is one of their team members.
Come and get creative with our free cardboard engineering workshop today at State Library Victoria from 10-3.

So proud of this project!
In August we rolled out the school engagement program that we created for Plenary around the New Footscray Hospital Project (partnered with Footscray Learning Precinct).
Check it out!
The kids from Footscray City Primary School and Footscray Primary School really got creative. They built some amazing structures in the hands-on cardboard engineering component of the program. The planning, design thinking, prototyping and testing they undertook was wonderful to watch.
Thanks again to all those involved.
ID: video shows snippets of the "Get to know your hospital" program. Some of the footage is of the teachers talking with the class, talking to the camera. There is footage of the students brainstorming and building a model of the hospital. There is also some footage of Dr Loz talking about the program and delivering the materials to the students.
How amazing are these thaumatropes made by grade 5s and 6s at St Catherine’s last week. They are powered using handcranks (kinetic energy transformed into electrical energy) and used as a promt and hands-on investigation around how we can generate electricity from things that move. From this we went into some great conversations about how renewable energy sources work (wind, hydro etc).

This is the most adorable video of the male falcon, trying to fit all four eggs under his chest to keep them warm. He has to adjust, and readjust his position constantly to try and find the best solution.
Video description. A male falcon shuffles around trying to fit all four eggs underneath him in the nest. High up in the building at 367 Collins Street Melbourne.
Collin street falcon watch is GO.
If you’re not already all over this, it’s an annual obsession of mine. Every year a pair of Peregrine Falcons nests in Melbourne CBD. The whole process from laying of the first egg to the fledging of the last baby is streamed 24/7.
It’s addictive.
Go outside to look at the moon now.
It’s spectacular!
That is all.
Packing peanut pompon mazes!
Got packing peanuts? Here’s a fun exploration for you.
The packing peanuts are made from plant based starch and air. When the peanuts get wet (we dip thwm into a container with a wet sponge), the starch starts to break down creating a sticky gooey “glue” that can be used to attach the peanuts to cardboard or themselves.
Go check out Muddly Puddly Laboratory for more packing peanut inspo.
ID: video shows a packing peanut being dipped into a container of shallow water and then stuck onto a piece of cardboard. Lots of peanuts are already stuck into the cardboard, creating a maze like pattern. The end of the video shows a pompom being guided through the maze by tilting the piece of cardboard.
Wednesday and Thursday THIS WEEK.
FORCES!!! Think marble runs, mazes and toy cars. We’ll be making them all in our STEM workshops this week.
It’s gonna be epic.
ONLY a couple of spots left. Book via website or Eventbrite.
