We are excited to share that construction has started on the new Sunbury Senior Citizens Centre 👏 Works are now happening to replace the 52-year-old facility. The new space is designed to support the changing needs of Sunbury's senior residents, providing a place where they can meet, connect and thrive. The Sunbury Senior Citizens Centre received funding from the Victorian Government through the West Gate Tunnel Project's Sunbury and Bulla Neighbourhood Fund, alongside funding from Council. The new facility will include: 🪑 multi-use spaces with flexible seating arrangements ☕ an improved kitchen and coffee area 🌳 welcoming outdoor spaces with improved usability 📺 integrated audiovisual facilities We aim for works to be completed late 2025 (weather permitting). February 13 marks the anniversary of the National Apology to the Stolen Generations, recognising the forcible removal of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children from their families and communities. This date marks an important step in reconciliation, as well as acknowledging the ongoing impacts and intergenerational trauma still felt by the survivors and their families. The Stolen Generations Marker, located at the Malcolm Creek Wetlands in Craigieburn (Wurundjeri Country) honours Hume City Council’s commitment to reconciliation. The site provides a place for survivors and their families to gather, and for visitors to acknowledge historical wrongs. This installation “Covered in our Creator” created by Gunnai, Waradjurie, Yorta Yorta and Gunditjmarra artist, Robert Young, shares the stories of survival by several Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community members.
