We’re all about reducing waste at our events ♻️

That’s why we’re excited to welcome the team from Green My Plate to Craigieburn Festival this year!

Green My Plate will be providing reusable plates and bowls to all of our food vendors on the day.

Once you’ve finished eating, all you need to do is:

💚 scrape any leftovers or food scraps into the green bin and
🩷 return your dirty plate or bowl to the pink bin

The Green My Plate team will then do the washing up so your plates and bowls can be used again!

Their bin fairies will also be on-site to help you sort your rubbish into the right bins.

We are excited to share that construction has started on the new Sunbury Senior Citizens Centre 👏

Works are now happening to replace the 52-year-old facility. The new space is designed to support the changing needs of Sunbury's senior residents, providing a place where they can meet, connect and thrive.

The Sunbury Senior Citizens Centre received funding from the Victorian Government through the West Gate Tunnel Project's Sunbury and Bulla Neighbourhood Fund, alongside funding from Council.

The new facility will include:
🪑 multi-use spaces with flexible seating arrangements
☕ an improved kitchen and coffee area
🌳 welcoming outdoor spaces with improved usability
📺 integrated audiovisual facilities

We aim for works to be completed late 2025 (weather permitting). Keep updated on the project here 👉 hume.vic.gov.au/sunbury-senior-cc

That’s a wrap on our Sunbury Community Arts and Cultural Precinct Open Day 👏 A huge shoutout to everyone who braved the weather on Saturday to get a taste of what’s to come for this special part of Jacksons Hill.

A massive thank you to the incredible people and organisations who made this event happen, including our Artists in Residence, BoilOver Performance Ensemble, Dr David Waldron, historian Trevor Dunn and Rosa McCall.

It was also great to see Hume City Mayor Mayor Jarrod Bell - Hume City Council along with Hume City Councillors, Cr Kate Hamley - Hume City Council and Cr Steve Gagen, with local state member for Sunbury Josh Bull MP for Sunbury at the open day.

There’s plenty more to come, and we can’t wait to see this precinct officially open later this year 🙌

This project is made possible with the support of the State Government.

February 13 marks the anniversary of the National Apology to the Stolen Generations, recognising the forcible removal of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children from their families and communities.

This date marks an important step in reconciliation, as well as acknowledging the ongoing impacts and intergenerational trauma still felt by the survivors and their families.

The Stolen Generations Marker, located at the Malcolm Creek Wetlands in Craigieburn (Wurundjeri Country) honours Hume City Council’s commitment to reconciliation. The site provides a place for survivors and their families to gather, and for visitors to acknowledge historical wrongs.

This installation “Covered in our Creator” created by Gunnai, Waradjurie, Yorta Yorta and Gunditjmarra artist, Robert Young, shares the stories of survival by several Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community members.

Join us this evening at Broadmeadows Library to launch the uncensored version of “If Everyone Cared Enough: Her Voice Reclaimed” by Margaret Tucker, MBE whose relatives are featured in this video.

📍 Broadmeadows Library
📅 Thursday 13 February, 5.30pm – 8.30pm

Stealth in the shadows and dark? Nope. You will be caught.

100+ dumped rubbish court matters were processed during 2023-2024.

Case spotlight👇

❌ Offence: unlawful deposit of waste more than 50 litres.

A business operator was caught on CCTV after dumping miscellaneous household items in Somerton in September 2023 and fined $5,796.

We have many examples of both individuals and businesses like this who have been caught and fined.

If you dump rubbish, we will catch you. If we catch you, you will be fined/prosecuted.
