“When you get to the 8.5 kilometre mark, that is my favourite, but also the hardest part. It is my favourite because there, where the hardest part is, is where you have to take care of your job as a mountain guide and take care of the people,” says Sapinggi, who's been guiding adventurers up Mt. Kinabalu in Borneo for 45 years. 🏔️

On a trip to South East Asia's highest peaks, Gemma Music caught up with Sapinggi Ladsou, a wise mountain guide renowned on those high-altitude trails.

On a trip to India after a tragic personal loss, Wadzi met Agra's acid attack survivors – and found renewed strength through sisterhood.

“Exploring China has always been a dream of mine. 🇨🇳 This trip ticked so many bucket list items.

Our Intrepid leader, Leon, truly opened our eyes to China’s modern and ancient sides. We travelled by various modes, dined at grand restaurants, and savoured authentic backstreet eats. My favourite part was an afternoon at a tea factory in Yangshuo, perched atop a mountain with breathtaking views. 🌿 We dove into Chinese tea culture, learned the art of tea-making, and even harvested our own leaves for a custom blend.

This experience was pure magic.✨”

"I knew that I’d have no internet in Cuba, but ironically I felt more connected than ever." ❤️

I imagined riding in the back of a classic car and salsa dancing in the streets of Havana. These things did happen, but I was pleased to discover that the Cuban people captivated my heart more than anything else.

"In the Sahara Desert, Merzouga, Morocco 🐪, our small group followed our guide Hamza into the vast, isolated landscape. We dropped our bags at camp, mounted camels, and rode into the rolling dunes. After a while, Hamza urged us to climb the dunes on foot. While we sank with every step, he seemed to glide effortlessly to the top. From his favorite spot, we watched the sunset over the Sahara, the sand glowing in shades of red and orange—a memory I’ll hold forever. 🧡

In the Todra Gorges 🍃, we rose early for a hike with Hamza through the valley farmland, heading toward the towering red sandstone canyons. The vibrant colors shifted in the sunlight, and the air was filled with the scent of fresh figs, dates, almonds, and pomegranates.

Hamza is an absolute legend. I definitely wouldn’t have reached the top of the dunes without his encouragement. It’s harder than it looks!"

What does an Intrepid Expedition and Photography Guide do in their time off? "That is a good question!" Andrew shares.🤔

"As a guide, I've travelled around the world, from the Baltics and Asia to New Zealand, and spent a lot of time in Antarctica. But Japan was always on my mind as it has such a rich history yet is so modern. It really piqued my curiosity. And it did not disappoint. The food was incredible, and the group and I visited places owned by the same family for over 1,000 years–a millennium is hard even to comprehend.

I also love to be immersed in experiences. As you can imagine, being a photographer in Antarctica is full of action. So, I love learning new skills and getting involved while travelling. It might've taken me a few tries to hit the archery targets, but I got there eventually!"

"We chose this adventure to discover places we might never have visited on our own. 🇨🇷

It was an incredible 3-week trip through…

📍 Guatemala
📍 Honduras
📍 El Salvador
📍 Nicaragua
📍 Costa Rica

Each country being so unique and full of surprises 😍. With only a little Spanish, we embraced the journey, learning and soaking in the beauty of each country along the way. Each moment was an opportunity to connect with locals and hear their inspiring stories.
The highlight was truly immersing in the culture, meeting incredible people, and experiencing the warmth and hospitality that made this journey unforgettable. ❤️"

“This trip was a refreshing change for me since I usually travel solo and plan everything myself. 🙌

Our group of 10 had an incredible leader, Nguyen, whom we affectionately nicknamed ‘Fancy Nancy.’ She offered rich insights into the country’s culture, history, and language, guiding us to the best coffee spots and Bánh mì shops. ☕️

I discovered that I actually love group travel. I made two close friends from the UK, and we’ve stayed in touch ever since. The itinerary was packed but never felt rushed, with plenty of free time to explore. Halong Bay was a definite highlight. We had our own boat, which served incredible food and had a fantastic top deck for cocktails, late-night Uno games with my new friends, and unforgettable kayaking.”

“Travelling through five countries with ten amazing people was epic. I chose this trip because after exploring much of Western and Central Europe, I wanted to see the untouched Balkans. 🙌

My favorite memory was jumping into the Blue Grotto in the Bay of Kotor. Visiting during the shoulder season meant refreshingly cool water and having the grotto all to ourselves. Off-peak visits are totally worth it!

Travel broadens your mind and makes you a better global citizen. The real treasures are the conversations with locals, the friends you make, and, of course, the food. Eating my way across different countries is a huge motivator. 😂”

HUGE news from Intrepid HQ!✨

We’ve just added a sweet new seat to our C-Suite, meet our brand-new, first-ever Chief Impact Officer for Intrepid, Payton Iheme. 🎉🙌

Payton is a rockstar in her own right. She has led advocacy and public policy work at industry giants like Bumble and Meta and even worked alongside former POTUS Barack Obama as an advisor at the White House.

At Intrepid, Payton will lead our global impact efforts, deepening our commitment to communities and the environment, advocating for a more equitable travel industry, and leading our not-for-profit, The Intrepid Foundation.

“Intrepid’s mission is to create positive change through the joy of travel, and I believe we can truly bring communities together and help build a stronger and more equitable world,” shares Payton. “I’m honored to join Intrepid at this crucial moment when we’re seeing too many companies divesting from ESG, DEI, and climate and conservation programming, as well as leaders shying away from advocating for the critical issues impacting so many communities around the world. As part of Intrepid Travel’s leadership team, I intend to bring my voice, my vision, and my energy to advocate on these issues and more,” she adds.

Help us welcome Payton to the Intrepid community. 💛
