Moroccan tanjia.
Mmmmm. How good does this look. Itโs a Moroccan tangia (also spelled tanjia), a dish for friends, family, colleagues and groups of people who gather to break bread and enjoy time together. We love the communal food dishes in Africa, where people come together and eat from a shared dish. The tanjia is subtly spiced and can have a sweet or tangy taste. Tangia is also called bachelorโs dish or bent rโmad, literally translated as โdaughter of ashes,โ as the tangia vessel is traditionally nestled into ashes for its long, slow cooking. Sounds perfect.

How beautiful is this forest in the Bale Mountains in Ethiopia. Yes, thatโs right, Ethiopia.
Ethiopia, like the rest of Africa, is full of surprises. But donโt just take our word for it, see it for yourself.

Oysters anyone? This is our country manager and tour leader for Madagascar, Benja No Ramanandoria enjoying some very fresh oysters from a roadside stall in Antananarivo. You can have them with onions in vinegar, tamarind or chilli sauce. He assures us they are โyumโ!

Happy Friday all.
We hope your weekend is as much fun as this beach party in Madagascar...
Happy World Hippo Day!
Today, we celebrate all things hippopotami.
Hippos are the third largest mammals on earth. A male hippo can weigh up to 9920 pounds or about 4500 kilograms!
While they can look cute and docile, hippos can be quite dangerous. They are mainly herbivores, so while they don't hunt animals or humans, they are very territorial. As well as their size, hippos have very sharp teeth and powerful jaws - powerful enough to snap a small crocodile in half.
Where did 2023 go? Itโs been a mammoth year. Thanks to all our amazing tour guests and guides, weโve loved sharing Africa with you in 2023.
2024 is shaping up to be a BIG year. Lots of new tours and exciting destinations.
We canโt wait to share them with you all.
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.
See you in 2024.๐
Happy Earth Day.
We think the world - and all it's creatures - is a pretty amazing place.
That's why we always ask you to do one small thing on a RAW tour...

Kenya and camels๐ช.
Two of the things we love at RAW Africa Eco-Tours. This is in Samburu county. Many families here lost all their livestock in one of the worst droughts in history. The governor of Samburu bought hundreds of camels from Wajir, on the Somali border and is giving every family one camel to kickstart their herds again. Camels are an important part of the northern Kenya ecology. They help the community which in turn helps the local wildlife.
And weโre off on our first tour post Covid.
We canโt wait to share the history, beauty and culture of Ethiopia with you.
We know youโll love it as much as we do. ๐ช๐น ๐ช๐น ๐ช๐น
We couldnโt let the Festive Season slide past without a word or two from our Founder, and wild adventurer, Brooke Squires.
Plus, we have all kinds of exciting new destinations coming soon. But weโll let Brooke tell you all about themโฆ
