The value of cruise tourism in Australia surged to a record high, generating A$8.43 billion for the national economy during 2023-24 financial year while supporting more than 26,000 jobs around the country.
CLIA and the Australian Cruise Association (ACA) released the latest annual economic impact analysis, showing a thriving cruise economy.
It shows total economic output generated by cruise tourism in Australia was up by 49.7% in 2023-24 to the highest levels ever recorded.
“Cruise tourism is thriving and passengers have been spending more when they step on shore, creating a record benefit for communities around the Australian coast,” CLIA’s Joel Katz said. “The number of Australians who benefit from cruise tourism is huge, from the travel agents who manage the passengers’ bookings through to the farmers who provide the local produce served on board.”

The irony! Ten pound poms now need to pay ten pounds to enter the UK. Registrations open: UK’s ETA launches soon - Heading to the UK next year? Get ready to add one more thing to your checklist. You can now register for the UK ETA (Electronic Travel Authorisation), to be introduced on 8 January 2025. “Australians who don’t currently need a visa for short stays or don’t already have a UK immigration status will need an ETA to travel to the UK,” states the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT).
According to DFAT, “an ETA permits multiple visits to the UK for stays of up to 6 months at a time over 2 years or until the holder’s passport expires, whichever is sooner”.
The cost of the UK ETA is £10 (around AU$20).

Windstar launches Canada 2026 season with new ports

On Wednesday, Qantas unveiled a major update to how travel agents will access fares, with a new distribution model to launch in mid-2025. Qantas says the rollout of the New Distribution Capability (NDC) will bring significant benefits for agents and consumers alike. But many travel advisors aren’t convinced! Here’s a snapshot of what they said:
“I would love to support our national carrier however the hoops I need to jump through when THEY change something is time needed elsewhere.”
“I have spent collectively over 6 hours the past week (4 hours of that was on hold) trying to get a reasonable fare assessment
Many travel agents no longer book Qantas due to all the hoops they request agents jump through and further add:
“The most user-unfriendly system ever”
“Only ever benefits the airline not the agent”

We are thrilled that we will be testing out a Celestyal Cruise next year and Qatar as a transit/stop destination en route to Greece! Celestyal has now recently announced, they are committed to boosting Qatar tourism. The Persian Gulf is the next big cruise destination on the globe, Celestyal Cruises Chief Commercial Officer Lee Haslett believes, as the line is set to invest heavily in the region over the next three years. Celestyal is set to introduce new Arabian themed drinks on their cruises and five ships are set to sail around the globe for Crystal Cruises as newbuilds ordered. Celestyal Cruises have also embarked on refits and changes to fare structure. Celestyal Discovery expands with new cabins and “Celestyal One” fare – we are excited to try all this next June

The ETIAS (Europe Visas) are set to arrive first half of 2025. ETIAS were approved way back in 2016 to digitally screen and track travellers entering and leaving European Union (EU) countries. It doesn’t include the UK. It was originally set to roll out in January 2023, but was pushed back until early next year. So here is the latest…
The application fee is earmarked as €7 (around AU$11), but please note: Agents may charge an additional service fee to process each application on behalf of each client.
ETIAS authorities will use the email address provided on the application so the client email address should be used as they can then access it to prevent customers from missing critical updates.
Further, any errors can lead to ETIAS refusal, revocation or denied entry to ETIAS-required countries so it is best for travellers to accept own responsibility here as part of their travel.
Once approved, ETIAS will allow travel within the EU for up to 90 days within a 180-day period and be valid for three years. For more information on ETIAS, visit the official EU website. Your agent can also provide the official/authorised link.
