Hey Litas! We're still here lurking in the winter shadows...

Back in March as the weather was starting to cool down, we decided to skip the group ride and meet up for a few drinks and some food at a central location. This was a success! So next month we will be doing the same kinda thing

We'll be hanging out at the Fox for another social meet. Bring your bike, don't bring your bike, you decide, we'll see you there to catch up over a drink and some food

The Litas Melbourne is now in its 7th year, it has seen many changes over the years with new leaders, ever growing members, different activities, ride locations, new connections, it’s always evolving. We all get out of the group what we put in, so, to all these womxn who show up mentally and physically for our rides and friendship, thank you, you make this group something to be very proud of 🙌🏽

One from in Brunswick to Ballan, the other will be a scenic ride from camp also on SATURDAY AM for anyone who has an all weekend ticket

will be leading the scenic ride along with some help from some of you wonderful Litas

10:00  Meet inside the entry point at camp (BALLAN) quick ride briefing and get ready to depart‬

10:30  Head off for a scenic ride to Trentham, and cruising back around to the lake for a stop on the way back

From here we will be cruising the freeway to Ballan ::Note:: We are sticking to 80kmh on here, so all you new riders, or those with lighter bikes will be comfortable

Be aware - there will be some gals organized to stop traffic on certain right turns – if you see someone waving you past – just go!

As always, don’t stress if you get separated from the group. If you can meet at the regroup stop then do that, if not – catch you in Ballan! We’ll just see you when you get there

It’s been a while between group rides for us, today definitely reminded us why we run this group, and why we want to get planning more ⚡️

Lockdown has finally eased for us all in Melbourne! Not sure about you, but both and have felt the knock on effects – including not being able to get a haircut… hello dreadlocked long hair!

So, we thought we’d throw some goodness out to the Melbourne Litas and collab with the awesome Hightail] to giveaway one of their Hightail Bike Hair Protectors

If you haven’t already seen or heard of this product, you’re missing out. Long hair, helmets and wind don’t always mix so well.
This product means you can ditch the braids, hair ties etc. You just loosely twist up your locks and tuck them in the pouch. When you take your helmet off later on you got some luscious dreadlock-free mane happening! Check out their page for more details. I’ve seen a few of the Litas using these and all rave about just how good it is

We’re on our way to getting the Litas back on the road in Melbourne! No dates in place just yet, but don’t worry, we’ll be screaming about it when our first post lockdown meet is happening

Looking forward to catching up with you for opening night of the wonderful photo series by Emily Jensen. This is part of the Ballarat International Foto Biennale

Sheilas is a photographic series documenting the ultimate girl gang; following numerous all-female motorcycle clubs over the course of many months throughout Victoria, Australia. Sheilas explores the connections and community formed over a shared interest in motorcycles and modern-day greaser culture, and offers an alternative to stereotypical representations of female motorcyclists through an unfiltered, honest depiction of the women within the motorcycle scene in Australia. The series is photographed exclusively on 35mm film

Being in the midst of cold days in Melbourne, we are not planning a ride out to this one, more just come and catch us at the bar for a drink and chat. Best to make a booking considering covid capacity limits and the place being fairly small! Link in our bio at the top of the page. Plenty of motels, hotels etc around on booking.com if you fancy making a weekend of it. Again, book it asap as the weekend may be a busy one with all the different exhibitions going on, there will be lots to see over the weekend if you choose to stay

Here’s a little more of Gellys story

“I'm new in this country.  I arrived in October last year after falling in love with this city

I'm a clinical psychologist and currently work with kids and adults doing therapy

My journey with bikes started about 5 years ago. Some may say a 30-year-old crisis but it was actually a hidden love of a lifetime

I bought my first bike and named her Letty and we took pretty good rides. I had to let her go to move here. But  fortunately someone who loves bikes has her now

I'm saving for my next bike but I'm scared of getting into one again and upgrading the cylinders. Mine was 150cc, I'm thinking a of a bigger upgrade

I'm looking to make new friends and get in touch again with that biker side of me, hoping a little push from The Litas get back on track”

We can’t wait to be back riding again and enabling womxn to up their confidence, make new connections, and generally egging each other on when it comes to buying new bikes and spending too much time out riding!

Heyyy Melbourne Litas! It’s been a while hasn’t it… Lockdown and winter weather is sending most of us into hibernation. Remember the summer days out riding, warm late nights cruising to nowhere in particular, catching sight of your bike buddies passing by on the city streets? Yeah, it’s feeling like a distant memory right now!
 
Not for too much longer we hope. All going to plan, we are reallllllly looking forward to catching up with you as many of you as possible for opening night of the Sheilas Photo exhibition in Ballarat, Saturday 28th August. Keep an eye out for more details nearer the date ⚡️💥

The Litas, where it all started

Over the coming week we’ll be sharing what it means to some of our members to be part of The Litas Melbourne. We love hearing peoples stories, how they came to join us, and why they continue to ride and allow us to be part of their riding life. We all come from different walks of life, but when we ride, none of that matters

Millie Hill... I’ve been riding with the Litas for around 4.5years. After upgrading my bike I went in search of more likeminded women to enjoy this passion with. When I stumbled across their Instagram page I felt intrigued to find out more. I nervously attended my first social ride with the group, I was welcomed with open arms. Literally. Like, I was hugged like a long lost sister. From here I attended every meet up I could, I loved the no BS attitude, and genuine warmth from the other womxn

When the original founders of the group needed to take a step back, I took over leading the group in 2019. With Mish Hapi joining me on the venture in 2020

When I get to meet and see new members integrate with ease into the group, who may have felt exactly the same as I did back then, I feel an enormous sense of pride and gratitude to be able to facilitate such a group

Being a part of The Litas has opened many doors for me. I’ve been lucky enough to ride with Litas overseas including . I have made some incredible genuine friendships, and experienced things I would have never known of. The sense of inclusivity is important, knowing you are part of an army of strong womxn who have your back. Priceless…

It’s our birthday!! Give or take a couple of weeks, just turned 5 years old!

It’s been a wild ride, growing from 3 girls wanting to hang out and ride their bikes with some company, to 5 years later, almost 200 members who come and go as time permits.

We can’t begin to explain how much we adore being part of such an inclusive and support bunch of incredible womxn in Melbourne.

To celebrate our 5 year milestone we would love it if our long time members, and all of our recent sign ups came along and had a social meet with us all. We will be hanging out for a few hours and hope to see you all there

We are not planning a ride for this meet. As we’d like to make the event as inclusive as possible, so feel free to invite your friends, partners or family, irregardless of gender.

It’s happening all you Sheilas!

1 week to go until we ride out to the weekend we have all been craving since we left Ballan a year ago. This year sees us setting up camp for the whole weekend, and we C A N N O T wait!!!

This year the Litas Melbourne will be heading off on Friday arvo. But if your boss is a dick and you can’t leave work early for the weekend, be sure to check in with who will be leading the group ride out on Saturday morning.

We have a West side meet point to for anyone who is keen.

Countdown is on!!! We will be leading a ride out to Ballan on Friday, then another group ride from camp on Saturday morning. More details tbc soon...

Hiya. So here is a bit of a schedule for this years (loose schedule 🐵) But a running schedule nonetheless. We will have these printed about the place but with this post we suggest you SAVE it! SHARE it! LIKE it! LICK it! ROLL it! FLICK it! Just KEEP it in mind!!!! So you don’t miss out on anything you are keen on. General theme is tho; Friday going to be waaaaay more chilled. So if you bought a 2 night ticket, Friday gonna be more set-up & meet-up with a bar and food trucks and then the outdoor cinema in the evening. Saturday on the other hand gonna be where most of the activity is at along with live music, DJ’s as a big party on the Sat night. There’s also 2 - ✌️- TWO - group rides this year. One will leave from Ballan on the Sat morning for all the Friday night crew doing a nice scenic route, and the second will be leaving from for people coming for just the Sat night.
