Do you want to learn how to fly a drone?
If you are aged in between 12 to 17, here is your chance!

Upper Hunter Shire Youth Services are hosting a Drone Workshop where young people can safely learn how to use one of our most rapid developing technologies.

The workshop includes a hands-on experience with workshop attendees being able to fly the drones as well as undertake a brief training session, which will teach the importance of air law and air craft safety.
Vanessa Whitten, Upper Hunter Shire Youth Projects & Early Intervention Advisor, said the event has been made possible with funding from the Civil Aviation Safety Authority (CASA).
“The workshop will focus on teaching young people what drones can be used for, how to manage the technology and an overview of the current rules and regulations regarding their use,” Ms. Whitten said.

“Drones are changing the way we work and live, soon they won’t just be a hobby, they will become a way of life. Teaching the next generation how to use them is important for everyone’s safety,”

“Legislation governing the use of the technology changes on a regular basis and it is important young operators keep up-to-date with those changes, as they become more and more common place in our skies,”

The workshop will be held at Aberdeen Bowling Club on Thursday 15 April from 10am to 2pm. People aged from 12 to 17 are invited to attend. As numbers are limited, bookings are essential and must be received before Monday 12 April.

Cost of the day is $5
Lunch will be provided.
Please BYO water bottle.

Transport can is available from Merriwa, Murrurundi and Scone; however, seats are limited and need to be booked when with the workshop registration.

This is a COVID safe event.

The Merriwa Tourism and Promotion Committee wish to Thank the following supporters of the Community Christmas Party,
The evening was a huge success with over 250 people participating in the business passport program, over 200 sausages were consumed, endless games were played and over 250 Community gift bags were given out to the beautiful children, by our wonderful and engaging SANTA.

On a personal note, I am continuously enlightened by the pride in Merriwa to ensure everything is so well done and received, we have had endless visitors make comment of the amount of love and care that is taken and shown within our beautiful community.
It is a friendly and happy place, even with the increasing amount of devastation, we still ensure that family time is celebrated and support is given to those that may need an extra boost of festive cheer at this time.
Well Done Merriwa Community.

Now one to get the whole family involved – there will be a passport/scavanger hunt that will require you to visit local businesses and have your ‘passport’ filled in. Once you have visited all nominated businesses, simply return your completed passport to receive a gift bag. We have wonderful donations from most of our business houses so far, more are being added each day,
As the main street will not be closed off, it is extremely important that Mums/Dads/Caregivers keep their children with them at all times.
The Welcoming centre will also be providing a free sausage sizzle and the chance to win Why Leave Town cards to the value of $25 for children and $50 for Adults. All you need to do to win is take a lucky dip when you get your sausage.
Many business will have there own promotions happening in store on the night, so don’t forget to ask them when you visit on your passport/scavenger hunt journey - you could get a great bargain and support your local businesses in this difficult time.
