What I Do

My name is Karen and I’m a travel agent who designs unique food and wine experiences for Australians visiting Europe. I specialise in France, Spain and Italy, curating gourmet holidays, wine tours, cooking classes and villa stays. I’m the only travel agent in Australia with 30+ years travel experience and Level 3 WSET Award in Wine. This means you're assured of a premium quality experie

nce with the best possible value. Plus, I take care of every aspect of your holiday, from the moment you leave home to when you return. About Karen

Karen has been travelling the world for more years now than she can count, but more specifically for the last 15 years, to indulge in her food and wine passion. This has led her to establish Food and Wine Travel. If you are a foodie or wine lover, you are in the right place! During her travels, she has 'collected' an extensive contact list of food and wine specialists (who are now friends), each championing their local area and keen to share it with people just like you. Karen started as a travel agent in 1992 and has owned and sold various travel businesses in that time. In 2022 she completed her WSET Level 3 Award in Wine, in order to add an additional level of specialisation to her business. Karen is the only travel agent in Australia to have 30+ years travel experience AND hold a Level 3 Award in Wine. Her favourite wine destination is France, specifically Champagne and Rhône (for rosé). Her favourite wines are normally the ones hardest to pronounce. "I love anything that is a bit different Eg Hárslevelű from Hungary but really, I will drink most wines". What's on Offer

Some of the unique experiences offered by Food and Wine Travel are:

Wine Tours
Gourmet Holidays
Cooking Classes & Schools
Tuscan Villas, Country Houses & Lodges
Unique Food & Wine Experiences (think celebrations & anniversaries)
Barge Cruising (with chef and market visits)
Walking & Cycling Holidays

A little jaunt into the Coal River region this week.....Frogmore Creek, Pooley, Nocton Wines & Every Man & His Dog. No surprises that Pooley is still the standout, and one of my all time faves. Although special shout out for the hand made chocolates and paired with paired wines at Every Man & His Dog. OMG Yummmmm!

CHEAP BUSINESS CLASS TO EUROPE ANYONE??

Join me on the 'stopping all stations' flight itinerary to Venice!!

I'm 'experiementing' with alternative routes to get there, flying business class but for a fraction of the normal cost, via all sorts of weird and exotic places.

It's probably not for those who aren't too well aquainted with airports, have no patience, are nervous travellers, or are addicted to their pathetic airline loyalty schemes. . . . . .but if you are keen to know how to save a dollar you might just be curious.

And NO this is NOT what I would recommend to my clients. NOT in a fit!

Like I said, it's an experiment. Let's hope it's a fun one!

Eight flights over a couple of days, and six different airlines.

What could go wrong?????? wellllll. . . . . . quite a lot but I'm trying not to think about it.

Experience South Africa’s Signature Wine: Pinotage 🍷✨

South Africa's diverse vineyards produce an incredible array of wines, but there's one varietal that truly stands out—Pinotage. Unique to this beautiful country, it is a fascinating cross between Pinot Noir and Cinsault, created in 1925 by Stellenbosch's first professor of viticulture.

Some love its complexity, others find it an acquired taste—discover which side you’re on by tasting it yourself! Cheers to new adventures in South Africa’s wine country. 🍇

In Italy, the debate over the country's national dish varies by region. However, one thing is certain: the best Italian food, whether it's pizza, pasta, or risotto, is made by nonnas, the grandmothers who preserve and pass down authentic recipes through cooking, teaching, and storytelling.

JAPAN is vowing to crack down on reckless riders of motorised suitcase transport after a spate of incidents across the country’s airports. Japan has been forced to pass new laws that require travellers to have a driver’s licence to ride electric luggage at airports.

The mode of transport has been popularised by high-profile thinker Paris Hilton, and has since seen an explosion in use across Asia.

In June, a Chinese woman studying in Japan was prosecuted for driving her luggage without a licence, after she rode a threewheeled suitcase on a sidewalk in Osaka.

Japanese authorities argue the emerging electric luggage trend is dangerous, as they are capable of travelling up to 13km per hour.

Brussels contain sulphur compounds, which can potentially cause bitter flavours (and another gaseous side-effect that we won’t mention) and as such they’re frequently named the world’s “most hated vegetable”. But they’re also one of the most nutritious veggies out there – packed full of vitamins and minerals, they have virtually no calories, no fat, no cholesterol, and they fill you up. Better yet, Brussels have an anti-oxidant that has shown to be anti-inflammatory and could fight cancer.

Want to give them a try? Here are six great recipes from Jamie OIiver:

La Vendange: The Harvest Season in France 🍇

From August to October, France buzzes with the excitement of wine harvest season, known as La Vendange. Across the country, from Bordeaux to Burgundy, vineyards come alive, and the air is filled with the rich aromas of ripening grapes and fermenting wine. One of the most prestigious festivals of this season is the Jurade de Saint-Emilion in the medieval town of Saint-Emilion, Bordeaux.

Whether you're a connoisseur or a casual enthusiast, there's no better time to immerse yourself in the vibrant tapestry of French culture. Raise a glass and join the celebration!
